Style Scoop: Swimsuit Preview

I’m not sure if it’s the incessant rain, the tepid financial forecast, or the sour political climate, but the fashion arbiters have been nearly silent about their swimsuit predictions for Summer 2010. I’m willing to concede that the aforementioned distractions might keep one from contemplating the majesties of warm weather leisure exposure, but for how long, Mr. Kors…for…how…long?

I suppose it’s time for me to take matters into my own hands, lest summer (or a weekend excursion) catch one of you unawares and unprepared for the new season wearing (gasp!) last year’s swimsuit. How delightful is it that the bathing beauties of 2010 can easily take their cues from the fashion runways and translate the trends so beautifully from sidewalk to boardwalk? Witness:

Jewel-tones: Solids are back in a big way. But not in the usual neon-bright or preppy-classic way we’re used to; this year it’s all about the jewel-tones. Which means there’s something there for everyone! For cool-toned skin, try cobalt blue, peacock or amethyst; warmer-skinned ladies, go with burgundy, eggplant, evergreen, or navy. These colors bring a level of sophistication no matter the silhouette, but they look especially current on two-pieces or maillot's with metallic accents.

Graphic patterns: Think mod or retro, but not sweet. Bold color-and-white prints like caning or silhouette floral's put a swing in a ruched bandeau or even a tankini. Watercolor florals give a modern edge to a halter top.

Retro shapes: ‘40s nautical, ‘50s high-waist, ‘80s bandeau, one-piece. Almost any shape goes, these days – make sure to pick the one that highlights your best features and minimizes any trouble spots. Focus eyes on your chiseled shoulders with a halter-neck. Trim a full middle with a high-waist bikini or a ruched, patterned tank. Elongate your legs with a tie-side bikini bottom.

Metal accents: Two-pieces, one-pieces, you name it. Jewelry just became irrelevant, because it seems every suit has a little bauble of its own this summer. Rings at the side, rings at the bust, jewels on the straps. A hip way to add some interest (and possibly distraction from the trouble spots) without worrying you’ll lose your necklace/bracelet/earrings in the surf. Echo the detail with a little interest on your sandals.

Ethnic prints: Still going strong: think ikat, paisley, or animal prints (love how these stripes slim the torso!). Metallic overlays and embellishments are here, too, but be careful: they’re on little-girl suits, too. Make sure to look for age-appropriate prints. Also, remember that with the options of buying each piece separately in most two-piece suits, whether bikini or tankini, you can keep the bold print on your most shapely bits, and smooth over areas you’d like to cover up with a solid color that complements.

Ruffles: Femininity rules on the Spring runways; make your mark in a swimsuit that shares the trend. Ruffles are a superb way to add a little extra volume to areas of your shape that need some bumping-up, proportionally speaking. Small busts get added volume from a ruffled bikini top, while boyish hips or a wide waist move closer to hourglass perfection with a little ruffle around the hip area. Be reasonable, though, and keep your age in mind – this look can get silly on those over 40 unless done with precision.

One-shoulder: This dynamic and very 2010 silhouette is perfect to lengthen a short torso or distract from narrow shoulders. Seen in bikini and maillot shapes, it also works well with a ruched bustline.

Monokini: My personal favorite, I was sure this silhouette would fade away after one or maybe two seasons. But lo, we of the good abs but soft bellies can still highlight and hide without giving up the bikini tans we need!

Ergo, I expect you all to show plenty of originality and style savvy on the beach and at the pool this summer. Lots of variety, plenty of trends represented, but all in the colors and shapes that flatter your bod the best! You knew you could count on me to set you straight, didn’t you.

Shop happy!

A YOUNGER LOOKING FACE DOES NOT
HAVE TO BE "FROZEN"

Relastin launches online campaign encouraging
consumers to “express yourself”

Relastin (www.relastin.com) today launched its “Express Yourself” online campaign, a nationwide program encouraging Facebook users to show off how they have diminished wrinkles, while keeping their facial expressions.  While other anti-aging treatments and products leave you “expressionless”, Relastin’s breakthrough line of anti-wrinkle products let you laugh, smile, frown, or pucker-up without worrying about wrinkles and fine lines.

To participate in the “Express Yourself” campaign and contest, visit www.facebook.com/Relastin, become a fan and upload an appropriate photo of your best laugh, smile, frown or pucker up face to the “Express Yourself” Facebook fan page. During the month of May, Relastin will select one participant with the best “Relastin Expression” to receive a Relastin Trio. The Trio is valued at $238 and includes a complete set of Relastin’s elastin-boosting products - Eye Silk, Skin Revitalizer and Ultra Emollient.

Relastin is the first clinically proven product to increase the production of elastin, a natural protein that gives the skin elasticity.  Relastin penetrates the skin to work with the cells to promote the formation of elastin, which the body ceases producing at puberty. Relastin’s “Express Yourself” campaign hopes to share with women and men that a younger looking face does not have to be “blank”.

Relastin users can go ahead and laugh, smile and even frown, if necessary, secure in the knowledge that Relastin will be there to help their skin bounce back.

So join in the anti-wrinkle revolution and become a fan of Relastin today!

A Fashion Editor's Guide to Sample Sales
brought to you by HauteMimi

We all love designer clothing and accessories, but most of us wish that the steep designer prices were lower. So what is a fashionista to do? Shop sample sales of course! Sample sales typically is a means for retail businesses to discard extra merchandise from their showrooms. The clothing was usually worn on the catwalk and on photo shoots. Sample sales are a great way to get near to perfect clothing and accessories at a fraction of the retail price.

The chic fashionista's at HauteMimi have put together a fabulous Fashion Editor's Guide to Sample Sales. You can read the entire article at HauteMimi and take advantage of the fabulous tips that keep stylish girls in style at a fraction of the price!
