Get to shopping, fashionistas, and compile yourselves the silkiest, velvetiest, sparkliest, sky-scraperiest holiday wardrobe, then get out there and improve the landscape!

• Deck the Halls With Soft Cashmere: Hit the neighborhood Open House in a halo of softness, like they're looking at you through a Vaseline-covered lens. Choose a drapey cowl-neck to highlight your twinkling earrings and your flawless, glowing makeup, with the season's hot wide-leg trousers for an elegant look. Or belt a chunky wrap cardi over tights and a miniskirt.
• I'm Dreaming of a Whiiiite Silk Dress: Take a cue from the angels and float diaphanously through the next cocktail party in a dynamite empire-waist number from the inimitable Chloé. Edge it up with black opaque tights and platform pumps or, if you're really daring, ankle boots- sweet and sassy, all in one outfit. Might be best to save this one for the end of the holiday season, as no waistline definition is required.
• Have Yourself a Merry Little Jacket: In velvet, with your favorite denims, tall boots and a turtleneck, for the local craft fair or the elementary school pageant. Polished, but not overdone.
• I Saw Three Shifts: And they were perfect for cocktailing, either with business contacts or a bevy of beautiful people. Simple black, sophisticated jewel-tones, or a frothy confection for a wild shindig.
• It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Shearling: When you're planning to spend some serious time in the weather, be it slopeside or rinkside or just outside, sheep have certainly discovered the best ways to stay warm. Layers of fleece wick moisture if you're exercising (and make great gifts!); wool coats keep you insulated even if they're damp; and the toastiest tootsies in the lower 48 are wrapped in Uggs (yes, still), Maxine's, or Michael Kors wedge boots. Sometimes, function is just as important as form.
• Dashing through the Snow, In a Smashing Tux-e-do: The ultimate way to ring in the New Year is in Kate Moss' favorite evening look. Pants are slim and leggy, jacket is feminine and frilly; the contrast is delicious. It never goes out of style, you can wear it anywhere ('cause if everyone else is more casual, you're really just wearing black pants and a jacket, no?), and accessorize it to your heart's content. Patent pumps and a crisp blouse for more conservative affairs, or slinky tank and sparkly sandals for the ultimate Eve.
• Oh, Holy Nightgown!: Wrap up the festivities in one of these alluring little numbers, either short or long, with a bow around your neck. He'll never mind opening the gift a little early this year…

It's hard to overdress during December, and you can always say you're on your way to another gig if your outfit isn't quite the same level of dressiness as everyone else's. But don't clip the tags until you're on your way out the door, and save those receipts—returns will come in handy during the white sales in January.
