Fall Fashion Trends
It has been a trying seasonal transition, girls. Indeed, I have tried not to purchase every blouse, pant, skirt, shoe and accessory I have come across-except for these absolutely to-die-for ankle boots, an absolute must-have to pull my entire fall wardrobe together. (Am saving up for a She She Me visit. The darling girl talked me into this wager game called The Fitness Challenge, apparently as motivation for skinny-jeans-season-monthly "fit" evaluation visits requisite. Winner buys Caribbean cruise tickets for both.) Yet, when the selection is vast and the sales are frequent, one can't be style celibate for long.
Even so, we must pace ourselves in our shopping expeditions to spread our budgets throughout the entire season. At the beginning of the season it is wise to keep (mostly) to the basics. Take a few minutes, (OK, realistically, take an entire weekend) to peruse the latest fashion mags, surf the style sites, check in with Style Network, TLC and Fashion TV and become fully updated and aware of the latest fall fashion trends. You do not want to face the season unprepared. To give you a little head start, I have comprised the following:
Fall Fashion Trends
Plaid: How perfect for She She! This trend will no doubt lead to many tiny plaid outfits for little Zac. Personally, I was lured in by Marc Jacobs' brushed plaid dress. Will look amazing with my new Miss Sixty boot. I also love this Anne Klein coat, anticipating the impending drop in temperature.
80's Resurgence: Just when we thought the 80's had been ultimately dismissed. Not so! Look for off-the-shoulder slouchy tops, bubble skirts, belted tunics & sweater dresses, and the ultimate comeback: leggings. (She She Me is loving the legging trend however. She says she can finally wear a mini skirt safely! I say what's a little cellulite between friends? She then reminded me of the great La Perla flashing of '04. 'Nuff said.) Accessories include cuffs, substantial belts, anything gold or bronze , charm bracelets/necklaces and studded bags.
Jockey: (Not the unmentionables, though this is lovely.) If you've ever dreamed of all things jockey-prep, wake up and shop! From the chic little vests to the fabulous riding boots, equestrian is in. The only "accessory" from this category that may turn heads (away from you, not toward you) would be the riding crop. Best to steer clear. At least in public. Unless, of course, you want to indulge your taste for vintage jewelry. Perfectly acceptable in that case.
Shorts, Gauchos, Bermudas, Crops: Again, I am excited by more opportunities to show off new boots! This season's bottoms come in many styles and patterns: Bermuda, crop, gaucho; even, fittingly, in plaid. For those lingering Indian Summer days, pair your bottoms with modern Mary-Janes to elongate your legs.
Tunics & Kimonos: Back for another round, the tunic takes the stage. Also, the kimono top seems to be winning interest this season. I think of it as the "top" version of the gaucho. Wide legs. Big sleeves. Are we seeing a trend here?
Faux Fur & Ruffles: The fluffy beast is making a statement this season. (Finally, I can resurrect my old winter coat without "fur-is-out-this-season" scrutiny!) Jackets, bags and of course-you guessed it- boots! (I do so love this boot craze!) Also, search out ruffles; feminine, classic romance. Find them on everything from blouses and sweaters, to skirts, coats, jackets and accessories.
Skinny Pants: Yes, I do in fact realize this is also something of an 80's revival. And no, you do not have to be a stick to look good in skinny jean. Try them with your new kimono top or tucked into your favorite knee boots. If you are still not persuaded, know that the boot cut jean is a season-sanctioned alternative.
One last note before we part: keep your eyes peeled for all things red hot red, as it is the color this fall-and certainly a plus for Christian Louboutin's signature soles. Ergo my most recent obsession.
Shop happy! I know I will.
