The More the Merrier
I'm proud to admit that I officially began caroling before Halloween,
have seen Love
Actually twice (and even prepaid for another showing), and not
only made my list and but have checked it twice, and then a third
time. Now it seems that the rest of society has finally caught
up with me and the Holiday
Spirit is everywhere! There is so much red
around that I've decided to shelve pink as my sig color and go with
the more festive hue. I'm showing
my Holiday color on my nails. Honestly a short, neat red mani is
the accessory of the season. If you popped by she she me
HQ, you would think we had all made the conscious decision to sport
our red nails from T-Day till the ball drops.
There's just
something about parties and weddings held around the Holidays that
regular events can't touch. They seem to promise nights filled with
glamour
and call for flashes of color and sparkle. This year I'm adopting
the premise of 'the more the merrier' when it comes to suiting up
for soirees. (To be clear, you should not continue adding items
to a chic outfit. You are not trimming a tree. However, I encourage
everyone to add some sparkle to their ensemble.) Now is the
time of year when we can 'do it up' and really have fun with our
outfits. You know, opt for the fun
party dress rather than the safe black frock.
This Holiday
season, when standing in front of your closet you should remember
this list of dos and do nots:
- Do
wear red, at least somewhere on your body. I have dreams of waltzing
into a party in a ruby
red dress and stopping all chatter.
- Do
not be afraid of beading and sequins.
Sounds impossible I know, as just the term can conjure up images
of totally beaded dresses in bright colors. Not what I had in
mind. Some simple beading on a dress or cardigan can transform
you from cute to elegant. An embellished handbag is a perfect
accessory to any ensemble (day or night).
- Do
add color to your outfit. If you're wearing a pale cocktail dress,
mix it up with bright satin
shoes or a dainty clutch.
- Do
experiment with texture. 'Tis the season for velvet,
silk and fur.
- Do
dress in layers. Start with stockings,
then add a dress, top with cocktail jewels, throw on an evening
jacket and a wrap, and you'll be ready for whatever the evening
brings.
- Do
not be afraid to mix and match styles. I love a long ball skirt
paired with a fitted, yet casual cashmere sweater.
- Do
dress up, for work, for play, for errands, for dinner and especially
for parties. The Holidays are a festive and traditionally more
formal time.
Hope this finds
you filled with Holiday cheer and parked happily under the mistletoe!
