Spring '03
I can hardly sit
still as I write this column. If only you knew how long I've waited to
bring you the scoop on spring. Well, finally, here it is and it's delicious!
First, I should tell you that I am sitting in my chicest of winter duds
and am having a mild fit to change into one of our new spring skirts.
(Which are amazing and can/will be worn everyday.) Thankfully, she she
me is also in her winter uniform, making my wool-ness seem more bearable.
Girls, we're in for
a treat as Spring is so lady-like, so full of color and femininity that
I can hardly stand it. It is truly a celebration of girliness. Now before
I work myself into a fashion mag frenzy, I'm going to tell you what key
pieces are necessary to complete your spring wardrobe. (As in it must
find its way to your closet.) I've also detailed my Spring wish list and
due to the harsh reality of the numbers that live in my checkbook, my
'realistic' list as well.
I know I've said it
a thousand times, but it really is the truth. This season you will need
a pencil
skirt. It's almost to the point that you should not shop (i.e. purchase
another article of clothing or accessory, and shoes do count) until
you have bought one. Perfect for any time day or night, it is the piece
du saison! P.S. It looks great with your classic button-down, and
the higher waisted the better!
Wish:
Marc
Jacobs with the lace overlay. (Actually touched it in NYC and it
is as beautiful as you think!)
Reality:
Banana
Republic pencil skirt. Still very chic and much more practical.
For
evening dates and girly luncheons you'll want a flirty
dress. Polka dots are sleek with a nostalgic twist this season. Try
full
skirts, empire
waists in just about any length and solids or patterns. There is so
much out there, it could make a girl dizzy.
Wish:
Donna Karan vintage-esque polka
dot dress.
Reality:
Love Life polka
dot dress. I have already planned events around this dress.
You will need
some new spring shoes. This season it will be hard to go wrong, as both
heels
and flats
are fashionable. Just choose a bright
candy-colored hue and you'll be set.
Wish:
Prada's suede mules.
Reality:
Kenneth Cole slingbacks.
Cute and trés affordable.
Now,
there are many routes to go when choosing a spring bag. You can splurge
on one or purchase a few less pricey but equally stylish ones. I've done
both and been equally happy each time. If you choose the latter; pick
a great tote
and then have fun with some vintage
clutches and smaller bags.
Think
of women in the 1950's, with their coiffed hair and full skirts, manicured
nails and polished appearances. Femininity
at its best. This is what spring looks like. It's going to be grand, don't
you agree?
