The Look of Flats
Suddenly, being flat-footed is not such a bad thing, in fact it's quite fashionable. Everyone from Margherita Missoni to she she me (resident fashion icon/victim) is adding a pair or two of girly flats (think ballet slippers- we love Red Luggage's) to their wardrobe. It seems that this fall it's either sky-high heels or very flat shoes -- with nothing in between. Don't think that flat means plain or dowdy. On the contrary, these slippers come in bright colors and many have embellishments such as ankle ties, bows or buckles. And if you think that losing a heel means total comfort, you're wrong. Many of the season's must-have flats come with super pointed toes. (After all, when it comes to shoes, you really shouldn't be too practical.)

When you head out to run your Saturday errands, reach for these feminine shoes over last fall's driving loafers and your old stand-by Birkenstocks. Comfy, oui: chic, mais non. If you're wondering exactly what article of clothing looks dynamite with no-heeled, pointed-toe shoes, fear not because I've got a couple of ensembles that are sure to make you a fan of flats.

1. The "I'm a Model Wearing Flats and I'm still Chic" Look: All it takes is a pair of chic leather flats, a mini (try denim now; tweed come October) and a slightly oversized top. Let's define oversized: larger than your usual fitted T; not one your Dad owned. You want your top to balance your small skirt and even smaller shoes; not swallow them.
2. The "Mod Hipster" Look: Pair some bright flats with skinny jeans or pants and top with a fitted graphic T. Look to MJ's collection for inspiration. Can easily become "Sweet Ingenue" Look if you trade jeans for black cigarette pants and add a black shell.
3. The "Tres Fashionable Businesswoman on the Weekend" Look: Smart flats, tailored ankle pants and a crisp white shirt. A little Fashion FYI - the white shirt is once again a must-have. (We love Banana Republic's option for the budget-conscious.)

The fall forecast calls for femininity and requires a girl to be chic at all times. The flat offers just the right touch to complete your wardrobe -- sophistication with a twist of flirtation mixed with a bit of comfort.

Shop well, my sweets.

xoxo,

Shop Girl

she she me Sponsor: Scout and Molly's
Summer's not over yet, but fall fashions are already beginning to arrive in stores. To help make room for their wonderful fall styles, Scout & Molly's is having an 'end of summer' sale. Our favorite shop owner Lisa is giving chi chi girls 20% off any non-sale item in the store. (We already spotted these Development knickers in there as seen on Carrie in Sunday night's S&TC. And I'm personally itching for this tweed jacket - tres Chanel. Not to mention the fact that we're taking our flats out there for you girls to get a jump start on Fall.) And if that's not enough, all summer clearance and 'basic black' items are marked 75% off the original price. Who doesn't need something in black?

If you're not able to make it to Scout & Molly's for the sale, don't fret, they are ready and willing to ship anywhere. Just give them a call (919.848.8732) and tell them what you're looking for - they have tons of chi chi goods.

Sale runs from today (7/21) thru Saturday, so grab your purse and call your girlfriends... you have some shopping to do!

Scout & Molly's is located in The Shops at Falls Village, at 6675 Falls of the Neuse Rd., Raleigh, NC 27615. Store hours are Monday - Saturday 10-6p.m.
