The Look: Sporty Chic

This spring season is jam-packed full of fabulous fashions for all. So much so that it's often hard to narrow down your look. From the cargo pants/utility chic get-up to surfer girl babe; from bright micro mini scenester to ladylike prim, there are plenty of looks from which to choose. To keep us all one-step ahead, I'm going to start highlighting several looks throughout each month.

And this month, you're in luck because it happens to be one of our faves. We're calling it Sporty Chic, and she she me and I are contemplating taking up tennis just so we can buy more than we already have. To define, it's country club meets the shopaholic. Fairway meets runway. Prepster meets hipster. Think tennis skirts (but for day), bermuda shorts (but with heels) and polos (there's none greater than Lilly Pulitzer, seriously the best fit ever) with pearls. It's your basic, "casually glam, I just stepped off the court but didn't sweat a drop" look and it's a must-do for spring and summer.

To make this preppy-chic look your own, simply follow the steps below:

Signature piece: seersucker mini

Now, dab on a pink shade of gloss, adopt an indifferent attitude and you'll be oh-so-country club chic.

Life isn't just about micro-minis and lipstick, we all must take time out to support the causes in which we believe. And on that note, here are two events that all Triangle girls should know about:

  • Looking Glass - (Thursday, April 10th, 6:30-10:30) Come drink, dance to Countdown Quartet, and bid on one-of-a-kind mirrors, all to benefit Hospice of Wake County's Reflections program for children. Tape Must-See TV, don a 'grown-up chic' dress and head to the Poe House for some civic fun. Tickets are $45 Individual, $80 Couple (919-828-0890).
  • Picture This - (Saturday, April 12th, 8 p.m.) It's a benefit for Prevent Child Abuse North Carolina and will feature a photography and art exhibit and silent auction. Grab a date and come dance the night away to music by Big Bertha. The event is at Exploris (E. Hargett St., Raleigh) and is Black Tie Optional, which is worth the ticket just because you get to dress up and play chic for the evening. Tickets are $35 per person in advance or $40 at the door. Call 1-800-CHILDREN or visit their website www.preventchildabusenc.org.
