Most Wearable Styles for Fall 2009

Whew! What a week darlings! My little sojourn to New York at attend Fashion Week Spring 2010 was everything I hoped it would be and more! From the fabulous flight (got upgraded!) to my sumptuous hotel (didn't get to spend much time but I did pilfer all the shampoos, lotions and other goodies!) to attending the many many fabulous fashion shows and events (and getting preferential treatment because I was filling in for my über-chic mentor/boss who was stuck back home with a vicious sinus infection and pinkeye)…I just can't begin to describe how magnificent the week was! The clothes were beyond gorgeous, with so many exciting and beautiful options for spring that it practically made me want to skip fall and the holidays altogether and get right onto those sexy spring fashions. Thought I would share just a couple of my favorite ensembles for spring, before getting down to the serious business of what we need to be filling our wardrobes with for fall.

I absolutely adore this ruffle front halter dress from Lela Rose. Besides the fact that it is the most gorgeous shade of pink, the length and fit are extremely flattering all around. Just in case I get to go to the Oscars, I would love to snap up this exquisite gown from Carlos Miele. Love the flow of the fabric, as well as the design. And one of my favorite designs of all, for its absolute wearability year-round where I live, this amazingly perfect sweater/trouser/shoe/bag combo from Tory Burch. I love everything about it and am quite confident that I could do the look justice. By the way, I actually got to talk to Tory Burch — she is beyond gorgeous in real life and very nice to boot! And for those times when I am feeling like an angel, here is my go-to look, from Narciso Rodriguez.

Well darlings, I could go on and on, there were so many wonderful clothes and accessories to see, as is the case with each new season and fashion collection that is presented. I was lucky enough to meet several amazing talented members of the fashionisi this past week and with autumn upon us we discussed the many merits of the Fall 2009 collections. One evening when we all went out to a very late dinner we played a little game I like to call, "If Money Were No Object" and we all chose a wardrobe based on that topic. Needless to say we could have given the economy a major boost if our wishes were granted! Then we decided to get serious in a more reality-based way, and between the twelve of us we came up with what we deem The Most Wearable Styles for Fall 2009:

Iconic Sheath Dress: this is a classic style that is very figure friendly. The sheath dress skims over the body giving the suggestion of curves without the blatant sexuality, which makes it a very office-friendly look. Accessorize this look with a great patent leather Mary Jane or spectator and an elegant leather handbag. A bold necklace will add a little attitude to the look, but keep the earrings simple.

Military trench. A great trench coat will carry you from fall into winter and right into spring. This is one of those style essentials that no wardrobe should be without. So very versatile - looks equally chic when work to the office or with your turtleneck and jeans on the weekend. I especially love this plaid trench from Via Spiga!

The Distressed Jean: Fashion seems to have taken a blast to the past - to the 80's to be exact. Distressed jeans are back and this time they come in every color of the rainbow. My personal faves are lightly distressed — none of that massive-rips-exposing-vast-amounts-of-cellulite for me thank you very much. The general consensus amongst my new fashion posse is that more lightly distressed will be more versatile, and therefore much more of a wardrobe staple for fall. Choose your style darlings — whatever fits your body shape best because distressed jeans can be found in skinny, boyfriend, cropped, bootcut, and on and on.

The Flat Boot: Comfort as well as style! It's a toss-up for me this fall, between a pair of cropped flat boots or a pair of knee-high flat boots. I know, I know, I'll end up getting both, but that's OK! Especially if I scout around for great deals. The harness-style flat boot is idea for wearing with jeans, corduroy and other more casual looks (and I really like the distressed look and feel!) The equestrian style flat boot is the perfect style for a knee-high boot, since it is a little dressier as well as a classic.

Long Cardigan: This is a more relaxed and comfy alternative to a blazer this fall. Just make sure you choose an excellent fabric that will wear well and not stretch out - there is nothing more frustrating than starting the day in a cardi that hits neatly at the hips, but by the end of the workday it is sloshing around your knees!

There you have it darlings! A good start to a great fall wardrobe!

Baggage Claims

In today’s eco-obsessed world, plastic bags are just as despised as corporate jets.  But are their successors – reusable totes – really that eco-friendly?  In “Baggage Claims,” WSJ. The Wall Street Journal’s glossy magazine which is on newsstands now, highlights the key players in the reusable tote industry such as Whole Foods, Ralphs, Trader Joe’s and Dean & Deluca, and ranks the eco-cred of their tote options on variables such as style, capacity and reusable-friendliness. tarte at Fashion Week

The tarte artistry team created the look for Hayden-Harnett's Spring 2010 Fashion presentation, which took place at New York's Fashion Week. Hayden-Harnett's collection was inspired by a nomadic journey through lava fields and desert landscapes. Our makeup artists used this inspiration to create a warm complexion with a strong, geometric brow and soft lip. Think natural with just a hint of healthy glow. The eyes remain muted with a major focus on the brows.
