Styling Summer Shoes for Fall!

I am not normally a snarky person. Ask anyone and they'll tell you, "Oh, She She Me? She's such a good sport/sweet girl/fountain of information/chic and stylish fashionista" with nary an allusion to aforementioned snarkiness. However, I must admit to the teeniest little twinge of snooty-patootie vibe while waiting in line at the grocery store this past week. There, on the front cover of one of those magazines that I never buy but always ogle, in full-color glory was the headline "Celebrities with Cellulite!" with accompanying (and extremely unflattering) photos. We're talking young celebrities here — twenty and twirty-something celebrities that we see on the big screen every day! Big names with big ole' dimples on their otherwise shapely thighs. It gives a girl pause, you know. Makes one wonder if she will ever dare don a gorgeous bikini and hit the beach again, what with the epidemic of internet-capable camera phones out there. All it takes is one brisk breeze lifting the hem of your flirty little sundress and suddenly it's snap! and your dimpled derrière is on display on someone's Facebook/Twitter page. And then someone tags you and links it to a bazillion groups and next thing you know you are being hailed as the Queen of Cottage Cheese! I mean the nerve of some people! But I digress… Luna Boston Foley + Corinna Banner 160x600

Anyhoo, back to the grocery store. And the tabloid photos. It did my little dimpled heart good to see that I was not the only twirty-girl to have a run-in with the evil that is cellulite. It used to be that I could frolic on the beach in the teeniest of bikinis in full knowledge that I looked quite spectacular. Mini skirts? No problem! Short shorts? Bring 'em on! But as I moved from my twenties to my, er, twirties and gravity started playing a much more visual role in my life, I realized that perhaps it was time to add an inch or four to my hemlines and wear a swimsuit cover when walking from the boardwalk to the beach chair. And perhaps a relaxing (and cellulite reducing!) massage is in order as well!

Anyhoo, let's move on to something more worthwhile and immensely more interesting. Shoes of course! There is nothing like a pretty pair of platforms to take my mind off pesky little problems. And what better way to shift attention from the upper leg area to the much more attractive and shapely lower leg/foot area than with a spectacular sandal? So let's take a look at some of the fabulous options we have to help us move from summer to fall in perfect synchronicity of style!

Sandals: One of the best parts about summer is a sassy pair of skyscraper sandals. Nothing quite makes a girl feel more feminine than sashaying about in haute heels. But your sandals can also carry over quite nicely into your fall wardrobe, so now is the time to take advantage of those end-of-season sales! Those adorable wedges that you have been wearing with your flirty sundress will add a touch of girly to a sleek pencil skirt this fall. And there is nothing quite like a pair of platform strappies to give a boost to your designer denim.

Open Toe Styles: So feminine and flirty! Add a bit of embellishment and you are set for fall. Looking for a haute bargain? Check out these gorgeous D'Orsay pumps from the Paris Hilton collection of Antebi Footwear — designer style at a fraction of the price. I'm definitely going to snap up one of this fall's hottest looks: the open-toe pump in a rich suede — another one of those great dress-up dress-down styles that can fill in your wardrobe blanks so effectively.

Fabulous Flats: Take a page from the style diary of Demi Moore, who loves a great pair of ballet flats (and she has absolutely no cellulite by the way…must be the genes. Sigh.) Anyhoo, those fabric and leather flats that look so adorable with your crops and halter top will look equally chic and stylish when paired with wool trousers, a silky tie-neck blouse and a long vest. One of my favorite picks for fall is a chic driving moccasin: cool, comfortable and gorgeous with a casual skirt and cotton blouse for a summer weekend, then moves right into fall when paired with jeans, a lightweight cashmere sweater and an edgy jacket.

Pumps: Probably the most versatile of all footwear, the classic pump can take you from the office to evening in no time flat. The right pair of pumps can give your office skirt and blouse the perfect touch of professionalism, or they can totally dress up your denim! And a pair of sexy sling back pumps is a must-have for every girl's closet! My favorite pair for summer-to-fall is this stacked-heel platform in burnt orange. It will look fabulous with my new scoop neck tie tunic dress!

Booties: Lace-ups with a bit of a strappy attitude are great for end-of-summer action. I just snapped up this gorgeous pair of open-toe booties that look fab with my new jersey knit dress. On my wish list for fall are these gorgeous studded-heel suede booties — gotta love 'em!
