Style and Beauty Tips for Upcoming Holiday Season
Can you believe that the holiday season is just around the corner? Whew! Where has the time gone? It seems like I just barely put my summer sundresses and sandals to the back of the closet — oh wait; I did just barely put them to the back of the closet — the temps here were in the high 80's until about a week ago! But fall is finally here, and with it all the glorious fall fashions; everything from scrumptious sweaters and edgy jackets to the perfect pair of jeans and classic knee boots. There are quite a few trends emerging for fall and winter, and since none of us has a magic money tree growing in the yard (but if you do would you please send me a couple of seeds?) But I digress. Where was I? Oh yes, let's take a little look at the best options for your fashion budget:
Floral Design — floral's were a huge hit for spring and summer, and the trend has carried into fall//winter with darker colors and edgier patterns to the floral designs. Everything from dresses and skirts to billowy blouses and even jeans! Not quite ready to go fully floral? A gorgeous scarf is a great way to rock the trend without going overboard.
Leather — Like we didn't already know leather was hot, but for this fall it is a must-have. And it seems that black will be the trendiest color for the fall. The possibilities are truly endless: leather skirts and pants or leggings for the night out, leather coats for a bit of an edge. Remember — faux is perfectly fine, as well as being more affordable (and animal friendly.) With all the looks that are possible, be sure not to overdo it — one statement piece is the way to go. Full body leather just doesn't work outside of a biker bar. Leather is gorgeous and an attention grabber, so choose a practical piece with a classic shape and rock it!
Bags — What girl doesn't love a great bag? Fall and winter are usually the time when bags are darker and more practical, however, for fall 2012 the bag trend is huge, and vibrant colors — aqua, sunflower, tangerine, and violet totally rock. Personally, I am a lover of brightly colored bags (which you usually don't see much in the fall and winter), and nice big roomy bags. I love the fact that having a huge bag that I can fill with all my girly goodies is right on trend for fall.
Oversized — No, I am not still talking about handbags — oversized clothes is also a fall trend. Wide leg trousers and roomy comfy sweaters, billowy skirts and voluminous trench coats. Remember the Loose/Tight Rule: Pair loose or oversize tops with skinny jeans or leggings. Same thing with drapey skirts or wide legged trousers — wear them with a fitted tee or top.
Shoes, Shoes, Shoes — I can resist everything…except shoes! Every girl loves a great pair of beautiful shoes. Fall styles trend from luxurious riding boots and sexy sling-backs to relaxed driving mocs and western-inspired boots. In all colors of the rainbow — and animal print — with a bit of bling or even studs, fun shoes are obviously a huge trend for Fall.
Tips to Stay Hydrated During Holiday Travel
Whether by airplane, car or even cruise ship, traveling can cause skin to lose moisture. Dr. Howard Murad, owner of Murad Skincare believes that healthy, hydrated cells are the key to ageless skin and a healthy body. So it’s important to take note while traveling.
Just in time for your busy holiday travel, Dr. Murad has provided a list of travel do’s and don’ts to ensure your skin stay hydrated longer and looking its best, especially during this busy travel season.
When traveling by plane:
Recycled air circulating around planes can wreck havoc on a complexion and cause skin to lose moisture very quickly. Before boarding an aircraft, apply an all-purpose cream such as Murad’s Hydro-Dynamic Ultimate Moisture and Hydro-Dynamic Ultimate Moisture for eyes for hours of hydrating protection. Additionally, applying Murad’s Soothing Skin Lip and Cuticle Care to your lips, cuticles and dry spots (such as your elbows) every hour which will help condition and revitalize dry skin.
And while the peanuts and pretzels may look delicious, salt can cause swelling. Instead, eat your water while in flight to stay hydrated. Snack on raw fruits and vegetables like carrots and apples which are filled with water and cell strengthening nutrients. This step will allow the body to retain water longer by providing maximum hydration on the cellular level.
When traveling by car:
Road trips may feel like the most comfortable way to travel with friends and family, but they can leave the skin a bit dry due to sun exposure and excessive heat or air conditioning.
When embarking on a road trip, remember to apply sunscreen even if it isn’t sunny outside. Harmful rays can penetrate through clouds and car windows, adding up to potential sun damage overtime. Murad’s Essential C Day Moisture SPF 30
provides essential hydration for dry skin on the face, neck and décolletage, as well as infusing skin with antioxidants, anti-inflammatories and hydrators to help protect against free radical damage. For the arms and the rest of the body, Murad’s Oil-Free Sunblock SPF 30
offers broad spectrum UVA/UVB protection to prevent sun and free radical damage.
Before heading out and while on the road, try not to drink too much coffee, as caffeine is a major cause of dehydration. Instead, make your own refreshing smoothie (I’d be happy to send some of Dr. Murad’s recipes) before leaving your house and store it in a thermos to enjoy on the road later.
While out to sea:
Cruising to exotic locations or near home can be luxurious. However, it can also zap the moisture out of the complexion due to exposure to salt water and ocean breezes. Maintaining a proper skincare regimen while on vacation is important to keep the skin healthy and nourished. Wash away dirt and impurities each night and revitalize tired skin with Murad’s Resurgence Renewing Cleansing Cream.
Make sure to follow it up with a moisturizer with SPF, such as Perfecting Day Cream SPF 30,
every day for lightweight hydration that stimulates the skin.
For all travel destinations:
Do remember to get enough sleep even while on vacation. Eight hours of sleep a night is the best medicine for skin, as it goes into a much needed repair cycle while the body is resting.
Don’t overindulge on alcoholic beverages. Alcohol is a main contributor of causing excessive dehydration, not only for the body but for the skin too. Select a mocktail instead or alternate water with cocktails to keep your body hydrated.
Murad can help travelers avoid skin saboteurs with an array of products that can easily be incorporated into any daily regimen. For information, visit www.murad.com.

Pop of Color
NEW FOR FALL 2012
Napoleon Perdis The One Concealer (currently available at Napoleon Perdis Concept Stores and www.napoleonperdis.com; launching at Ulta and Dillard's in August 2012 and Nordstrom in October 2012)
In an elegant and airtight pot, The One Concealer resembles a regular cream concealer. Yes, it hides dark circles and excess (eye) baggage. Yes, it evens out redness, blemishes, and pigmentation patches. But The One does more than that: it synchs in with almost every skin tone which is why it comes in just one skin-flattering peach/nude shade.
The One Concealer is a solid cream that melts into the skin (when warmed slightly with the fingers) thanks to skin-compatible esters that aid application. The high pigment content in the formula - and the peachy nude hue - deliver convincing, medium-weight coverage to camouflage imperfections including under-eye circles and bags, blemishes, sun spots, broken capillaries, and any redness. When blended carefully into the skin it leaves a fine, matte finish that's forgiving to fine lines and wrinkles.
