Fabulous Party Style

So, big changes happening around here these days. First and foremost — The San Francisco Giants won the World Series!!! And I have to admit that while I may not be the most sports savvy girl on the block I got totally swept up in Giants Fever (even though I drew the line at actually donning a logo'd sweatshirt and ball cap, I did exhibit my support of the hometown team in this of-the-moment calf length pencil skirt, chic knee boots and motorcycle jacket, with a pop of team spirit in the color of my scarf. (One can only carry the Halloween color theme so far.)

Then there was the massive victory parade down Market Street to Civic Center Plaza — it was a veritable sea of orange humanity dusted with a nice coating of confetti, the crowds cheering, the team members waving at the fans from cable cars…it was a great day to be a San Franciscan!!! And again, I celebrated in style in a pair of All American denim skinnies, a gorgeous plaid jacket and a spiffy cashmere weekend pullover, with my feet tucked into a nice warm pair of leather moccasins. I'm pretty sure I was one of the more fashionable fans on hand. But I digress…

Back to big changes. I'm thrilled to say that we have had a banner year at work and we find that we are bursting at the seams. Therefore my über-chic mentor/boss is expanding the business, bringing in more help, moving us all to new digs and upping my particular benefits package.(Although, to be perfectly honest my favorite benefits are more along the lines of the gorgeous designer bags and shoes she receives from clients and passes along to me!) But as she says,she couldn't do any of this without me and I am a valued employee/fashionista and as such deserve a few extra perks. (Her words, not mine.)

Now, I was seriously hoping that the few extra perks would include an expense account at, oh, let's say Marc Jacobs, or perhaps a weekly visit to Spa Radiance. Or maybe a membership to the Designer Shoe of the Month Club (this is an excellent concept, by the way, which should be implemented immediately by Jimmy Choo or Christian Louboutin please). But apparently the corporate view of "perks" runs more along the lines of excellent health and dental coverage, and an extra week of vacation time. (Which I am thrilled for, honestly, especially if free teeth whitening is include!)

So I arrived at work this morning attired in a truly scrumptious sweater dress, leggings and tres chic booties with my new favorite new bag slung over my shoulder, only to be handed running shorts, a sports bra and a pair of trainers and hustled into the bathroom to change. Next thing I knew I was speed walking on a treadmill with a multitude of wires protruding from various parts of my body and a young (we're talking very young — think Doogie Howser) physician's-assistant-in-training with a white coat and clipboard hovering over a portable EKG machine and cranking the treadmill up to near vertical incline and ever increasing speed. As the sweat poured down my face and I wondered if my legs were about to turn into jelly he cheerfully announced, "Wow! You're in pretty good shape! Considering..."

Considering?? Considering what?? Considering that my carefully applied makeup is now running down my face in rivulets and my hair is plastered to my forehead? Considering that I just walked seventeen blocks in 4 inch heels carrying a 25 pound handbag and had no idea I was about to train for a marathon? It had better not be considering that I am old enough to have been your babysitter, because if that's what you mean you are about to get drop kicked right out into the street! Honestly, if I weren't such a magnanimous twirty-something fashionista who always gives the benefit of the doubt, I might just be offended!

Well, I'm not about to let the tactless comment of an obviously clueless little boy affect my day, or my attitude. Besides, once the EKG was over and I had rinsed off, reapplied my makeup, slicked my hair back into a stylish high ponytail and donned my chic ensemble, I ran into Doogie out in the hallway and "accidentally" trod on his toe with the very pointy heel of my boot...

To put myself in a better frame of mind after the aforementioned trauma, I spent the afternoon compiling a selection of my favorite party styles for fall and for the upcoming holidays. After all, what puts a girl in a good mood better than a little retail therapy?

Fabulous Party Style

Sophisticated. What is more fun than a party you can get all decked out for? It is also the occasion for that perfect little black dress. If you have more than one event that fits into this category and you want to get some mileage out of that LBD choose a classic style that can be accessorized to achieve different looks. A sleeveless knee-length sheath is the perfect LBD because the style is timeless. Give it a dose of sophistication with a chic necklace, a bold cuff and edgy footwear. Or give it classic style with a string of pearls, delicate earrings and sleek pumps.

Sexy. You'll find plenty of occasions that will call for something a little more alluring this holiday season. A figure flattering wrap style dress is an excellent choice — it defines your waist and shows off your shoulders and back without being too revealing. Or this season's very popular one-shoulder style is another great choice. If dresses aren't your thing, go with a pair of silk or velvet trousers paired with a shimmery top.

Business. Ah, the ever dreaded office party. It often occurs during the lunch hour or immediately after work, so how do you give a little style to your normal business attire? Swap out your basic blouse for something a little silky or sparkly. Ditch your work pumps and slip on a pair of sexy skyscrapers. Replace gold hoops with sparkly dangles. Swipe on a bold lipstick and spritz with a delicate scent and you are good to go!

Casual. As much as I adore getting all dressed up, I have to admit that there are so many times when I am thrilled to take it down a few levels and just be comfortable. That doesn't mean a girl can't also be stylish! Velvet jeans paired with a silky top and sleek ballet flats. Or denim flare jeans, a soft silky tank topped with a fluttery cardigan, and finish the look with a pair of uber-comfy mocs.
