Hottest Trends for 2009

Whew! The whirlwind of the holidays is a rapidly fading memory (if only those extra pounds were as rapidly fading…sigh) and it's back to the grind for most of us. I have to admit, however, that as much as I love the mega-windup to the holidays, complete with gift shopping, sparkly lights, festively decorated stores, holiday parties, wrapping gifts, unwrapping gifts, wearing gifts, etc. it's good to have a chance to wind down, relax and get back to real life.

Which, of course, means checking out the hot new trends for 2009. Let's see what's in store for fashionistas this year:

Hot Trends for 2009

Sheers. Think soft and feminine, gorgeous sheer fabrics that drape and enhance. Mix it up with a structured sheer blouse with tweed trousers. Or grab a gorgeous girly gown in a delicately draped sheer fabric and this season's hotter-than-hot platform sandals.

Fringe. Think sleek, sexy, feminine. Flapper, but without the theme-party feel. Keep the focus on the fringe, and accessorize simply. A great fringed top paired with a sleek skirt. Or a sexy dress with fringe swishing around your knees, pair with gorgeous skyscrapers.

One shoulder style. This is the hot look for 2009. From the gorgeous one-shoulder dress to a flirty little top, be sure your wardrobe has at least one item from this cutting edge look.

Ensemble Style. This year separates are going to be the big story in fashion. And it all starts with the suit — both skirt and pant sets. You really get more bang for your buck because you can get soooo many more looks! Pair the jacket with a dress for the office, or with a pair of jeans for the weekend. The skirt can be worn with the blazer and a blouse, or with a stylish sweater. So many options, so much style!

Denim: Well, darling girls…they're back. Rolled boyfriend hems and ripped jeans. Which is a good thing for those of us on a budget — all we have to do is confiscate our beau's denim and take a pair of shears to it! (He'll never know.) I must admit, I really do like the look of the rolled hem boyfriend jeans, especially when paired with killer heels!

Well darlings, it's a start! Now you are prepared to dive into the New Year fully locked and loaded, ready to take the year by storm and in style!

xoxo,

The Perfection of Platinum

When it comes to precious metals, there is absolutely nothing on earth more perfect than platinum. It is rare, it is incredibly strong and it is the most exquisite setting for precious gems. It is the purest metal on the face of the earth (95% pure in fact, compared to 18 karat gold which is just 75% pure), which gives it a brilliant white lustre which never fades or tarnishes. This purity and lustre makes it the perfect setting for precious gems, especially diamonds, because it reflects the true brilliance and radiance of the gem.

Platinum has always been associated with the best of the best (think Platinum Records); in fact, the Hope Diamond, one of the most famous (and gorgeous!) examples of a rare gem is set in a necklace of platinum and diamonds, as is the Mackay Emerald and the famous Krupp diamond owned and worn daily by Elizabeth Taylor. And since platinum is also a symbol of status, many celebrities have chosen it for their engagement and bridal sets, as well as red carpet looks.

Like all precious metals, platinum scratches. However, the scratch on a platinum piece is merely a displacement of the metal and none of its volume is lost. So, even though wearing it each and every day may leave an impression on the surface, it remains exactly what it was — a symbol for all things eternal. Which makes it the ideal choice for bridal jewelry. Platinum is also very pliable and can be molded, woven and fashioned in ways in which other precious metals could never be worked.

Platinum. The perfect choice.
