Best Seasonal Styles for Under $100

This has truly been an eventful week — not only does this great country of ours have a brand new President-elect, but the price of gasoline dipped below $2.50 per gallon for this first time since 2006! I am sooooo looking forward to being able to fill my tank and buy groceries all in the same week! Also, Girly gave me a really great money saving idea: pretend that gas prices are still sky-high, then put that extra money in a nice, safe investment account (although these days the safest place to put your money might just be under your mattress!). Anyhoo, personally, I have an even better idea of what to do with that extra gas money, and it involves peep toe MaryJanes …and hot handbags…gorgeous dangles…a new weekend coat…and maybe, just maybe a truly stunning chic and stylish dress!

And speaking of chic and stylish, the entire country has its collective eye on our future first lady Michelle Obama, who has already proven her fashion prowess in a variety of sleeveless, figure flattering dresses and über-chic ensembles while on the campaign trail. (With the possible exception of her election night dress. Yikes.) With her statuesque figure, chicly minimalist style and incredibly toned triceps she brings new meaning to the word regal. Darling girls, the world hasn't had a true fashion icon since Princess Diana, but in Mrs. Obama we get the added bonus of a woman with more than a modicum of intelligence. And she does pearls! I adore pearls…

So, in the spirit of our chic and stylish soon-to-be first lady, and taking into account the reality of our recently reduced bank balances, we have pulled together another of our fabulous 'Best Of' lists. Stylish separates that can do double duty by going from the office to evening. Classics which you will wonder how you ever lived without. And a few little bonuses…

Best Seasonal Styles for Under $100

  • Black Blazer one of the classics. A good black blazer can dress up a pair of jeans and a tee, or tone down a girly gown. This is one of those items that you could spend a lot of money on, but you can also find great quality by shopping smart end-of-season sales, discount and overstock sites, member shopping sites.
  • Tie-neck blouse. One of this season's most versatile styles. Looks über-chic when worn with a slim pencil skirt and platform pumps, and can make the change from work to play when paired with dressy denim, a trendy jacket and a pair of ankle boots.
  • Figure flattering dress. Oh yes, my dears, to truly get in touch with your feminine side you've got to go for girly. Think gorgeous colorful floral's. Think touches of lace and velvet. Think draping, pintucking, rouching and fabrics which cling where they should and skim over the naughty bits.
  • Snuggly soft sweater. Personally I adore cashmere, but it can be pricey. Check the online sample sales at sites like ruelala.com and hautelook.com where you can snap up exclusive designer goods at a fraction of their normal cost. Also, Target carries cashmere sweaters, but they go fast! You can also go with a great cashmere/wool blend. I also love 100% cotton sweaters from Banana Republic, J Crew and the Gap. Great style at fantastic savings. Merino wool is also a good choice — it does require dry cleaning — but with proper care it will last season after season and become a staple of your wardrobe.
  • Classic black trousers. Go with a good quality wool or gabardine that will hold its shape and wear well. Mid-rise trousers are the most versatile as well as the most figure flattering. The pant leg should fall straight from the hip to the floor, with no tapering.
  • Denim! Probably my most lived-in item of clothing is a great pair of jeans a definite must-have item. And there are always great designer denim sales online, you just have to take the time to look around!
  • Platform pumps. Choose a color that will go with the majority of your wardrobe. Black is usually the color of choice, but you can also go with a ivory, bone, tan or brown. Keep the heel height between 2 and 3.5 inches to get the most versatility from your footwear.
  • Boots. If you were to choose just one style of boot to get you through the season, it should be a knee-high boot with a 1.5 to 3 inch heel. These are the most versatile, as you can wear them with skirts and dresses as well as trousers and jeans.
  • Big watch. The statement jewelry for fall/winter. The over-sized round faced watch is being seen on the wrists of fashionistas everywhere. And not only will you be on the cutting-edge of style, but you will also always be on time!
  • My new signature necklace. This one jumps over the $100 limit, but by just a teeny tiny bit, and it is definitely worth it. I just adore the chic simplicity and clean lines of this necklace. And the best part: matching earrings!
  • Fun bracelet. I adore these stacked bangles, and I especially love the price! And for the times that I really want to make a statement, I'll stack them deep!

Just a few little tidbits for a tad bit over $100

  • The most gorgeous peep toes I have ever seen. I adore these! They will look fabulous and go with absolutely everything I wear throughout the holiday season!
  • Spectacular artisan gold and silver ring. I think I'll pass along a not-so-subtle hint to my beau!
  • Truly chic day dress — very First Lady!
  • This dressy tie-front velvet blazer perfect for holiday parties.
  • Snug and toasty warm shearling lined jacket. Perfect for a brisk afternoon walk in the park! And yes, I realize that this one is waaaaay over the $100 mark, but it's always nice to dream!

Well, darling girls, change is in the air! And by that I mean it's time to change your closets over to your winter wardrobe (and you thought I was going for the political analogy!) I sincerely hope this little list of affordable fashions will aid and assist you in your winter wardrobe quest.

xoxo,
