Fabulous Fall Fashion and Beauty Essentials
Don't you just adore autumn? I absolutely love everything about it, from the gorgeous fall colors to the crisp, clean nip in the air (and the fact that I can legitimately wear cashmere every day), but I am especially thrilled that all of my favorite TV shows are returning with fabulous new episodes! (As well as all of the nifty new series premiers!) Downside: my TiVo is so full that I will have to spend the entire weekend parked on the sofa to get caught up on my current list of must-see TV! Hmmm, possible to write it off as work time? After all, I do spend quite a bit of said sofa time checking out hot celebrity fashion trends! (Absolutely fell in love with the adorable eggplant shirred blouse and wide-leg tie trousers that Kate Walsh wore in the premier episode of Private Practice, not to mention all of the sneak-peeks at SJP's wardrobe for the new Sex and the City movie. Yummy girly dresses, over-the-top accessories and every pair of shoes absolutely to-die-for!) But I digress…
Anyhoo, after this past few weeks of TV overload, was feeling a bit Hollywood-red-carpet-premier-brunette-bombshell-ish, or rather, to clarify, wanted to feel Hollywood yada yada bombshell-ish but couldn't seem to quite pull it off. It wasn't the wardrobe—I was looking über-chic in my new pleated blouse, wide-leg trousers and chic jacket. It wasn't the shoes (my particular area of expertise/weakness/raison d'être). It wasn't the handbag (early birthday present!) It was the hair. Had to be the hair. This twirty girl definitely needed a change. Maybe sexy messy curls like Eva Longoria? Or perhaps a sleek bob àla Katie Holmes/Victoria Beckham? Much contemplation needed.
Having learned my lesson early in life during one of those can't-stand-it-another-minute hair moments which resulted in an historically horrendous mop of mullet-esque fuzz, I knew better than to take any drastic and unpremeditated action, so I called in a favor from a dear friend Pilar (she of the gorgeous tresses and British accent) who introduced me to Dustin David Salon in Los Gatos, where I was pampered, inspired, reassured and treated like a treasured friend. The stylist took the time to get to know me, my lifestyle, my expectations and even my somewhat limited though enthusiastic styling
abilities, and was able to give me a cut and style that is not only flattering to my face and figure, but one that I can maintain on my own! And as I left the salon with a little spring in my step, hair healthy and shining, I knew that I would be looking as sassy and stylish as ever for my lunch with the girls!
Ahhh, lunch with the girls. I don't think there is anything on earth I look forward to more (other than retail therapy of course). There is just something innately perfect about good food, good friends, great conversation and fabulous clothes. I highly recommend it—and often! Anyhoo, as usual, we got into one of our Must-Have conversations regarding fashion, accessories, lotions and potions; and here's our latest list!
Must-Have Fall Fashion
. An absolute must for fall comfort and practicality. Look for intricate patterns and diverse textures
for added style. Looks fabulous with straight leg jeans, and the longer ones can be worn as a dress with tights!
Must-Have Fall Beauty
is back. Shiny and glossy are gone. Prep your lips first with a great primer
to fill in lines and help lipstick go on more smoothly. Go with rich colors
like berry, brick, cognac and cinnamon.
The eyes have it. Try lining with a rich plum, cocoa
or navy to get that smoky look, instead of the usual black or kohl. Remember to smudge! This shadow palette
from Bella il Fiore is so very chic for fall!
Boots No 7 Restore and Renew
. It gives me the same results as the exotic (and über-expensive) potions that I used to "borrow" from my mom whenever I was home on vacation (and then accidentally packed into my toiletry bag
!) at a fraction of the price. Leaves skin soft and supple, and also reduces appearance of expression lines (never say wrinkles!)
A great option for post-twirties (a much more user-friendly sobriquet than actual numbers) who are contemplating the next move is
, an injectable
"next-generation" dermal filler ideal for eliminating those parenthesis around the nose and mouth.
Must-Have Fall Accessories
. Girls, you are going to adore this! The absolute perfect wrap for fall. It stays on your shoulders, is very stylish, versatile
and best of all, is totally portable! Perfect for travel or to toss in your bag for brisk evenings.
. All the rage with fashionistas this fall. Wear it in an easy and effortless manner (no need for perfect knots). So luxurious, so delectably wearable
, you'll welcome the chilly weather!
Must-Have Fall Footwear
. If you aren't quite ready to embrace the full-blown ankle boot, try a flattering bootie instead; it elongates the leg with its low cut and sloping front. With so many chic styles
you are sure to find exactly what suits your style.
Patent peep toes
. One of my favorite looks for fall. Adds the perfect finish to a classic LBD and can take a pair of jeans from blah to brilliant in no time flat! If you really want to make a statement, go with a bold color like fire engine red or cobalt blue
If you are going to make just one footwear investment this fall, make it a great pair of boots
. A chic pair of mid-heel knee boots
will last you for years and never go out of style. That's why it's an investment!

DEEP RICH REDS, PLUMS, AND AUTUMN BERRIES ARE HOT COLORS IN MAKE-UP THIS FALL
This fall, flushed, rosy cheeks, stained lips and fabulous Retro-eyes will be the rage! Brows and lashes are prominent, hair is bobbing and flowing and autumn berries are the hot colors for nails and make-up blended with a bit of the 60s Retro-Mod look. You'll see deep rich shades in make-up as well as in fashion, creating an elegant, rich look.
One of the hottest trends is the cream, sheer blush worn in a retro-style (think "Twiggy" in the 60's, and lips should look more stained than glossed which will give you a sexy look.
Brows have made their comeback, (a la Brooke Shields), and Lashes will be emphasized as thick and bold. Try a protein lash plumper or be daring with strip false eyelashes and experiment with a totally new eye shadow color to give you a wide-eyed look.
