Fall Fashion Finds For Every Girl

You'll never believe what happened to me! Well, those of you who know me personally will completely understand, especially if you have ever been shopping for shoes with me or have ever seen the inside of my closet (since, admittedly, I do have a bit of a soft spot for gorgeous skyscrapers). But I digress. Anyhoo, was just putting the finishing touches on a project that I had been slaving till all hours over (and had done a fabulous job on I might add), and was in the process of returning an enormous stack of samples to the press closet. Was the teensiest bit distracted, mentally already packing my bags for my jaunt to New York for Fashion Week (am going to look so fabulous in my new LBD at the Grill) when the already precarious stack started to tip sideways. As I bobbed and weaved down the hallway, trying to keep my leaning tower of products upright suddenly I felt my ankle give way and whooooosh! down I went. Total face-plant into the nubbly carpet, little boxes, bottles, brushes and tubes flying in all directions.

Gregorio, one of the assistants, came rushing to my aid, exclaiming, "Oh She She Darling! Your gorgeous Louboutins! Are they OK?" A quick survey of said pumps confirmed that they were, indeed, no worse for the wear (thank heaven!). Which meant, of course, that I had actually fallen off my platforms! (Hmmm. Couldn't blame this one on a broken heel). Me! A girl who has been strutting around in 3-to-4+ inch heels for the better part of her adult life! Granted, I did have my arms full and I was in a bit of a hurry, but to actually fall off one's heels? That hadn't happened to me since the school talent show in sixth grade (another spectacular face-plant if memory serves). In fact, I distinctly recall being able to nimbly negotiate icy sidewalks, loaded down with shopping bags and shoe boxes while wearing a fabulous pair of red patent pumps last holiday season—with nary a mishap!

Such fond reminiscence distracted me temporarily from the throbbing pain in my ankle. I hobbled to a chair, assisted by a very solicitous Gregorio, who exclaimed over my rapidly swelling ankle, trying to cheer me up by pointing out that the deepening purple color coordinated quite nicely with my new plaid dress.

Long story short: It's a no go to New York. While many of my coworkers and associates will be hobnobbing with celebrities and fashionistas in Bryant Park, Yours Truly is stranded on a chaise in her living room, leg propped on pillows and a not-so-healthy supply of Dove chocolates and Diet Pepsi near at hand. What's an injured twirty girl to do? Well, being the forever optimistic life-is-a-bowl-full-of-cherries/rose-colored glasses girl that I am, I have decided to throw a Fabulous Fall Fashion Fiesta. Snapped up these adorable little imprintable invitations and have sent them to my dearest girlfriends, inviting them over for an evening of fashion rumination, discussion, perusal and most likely a great deal of online purchasing.

She She Girls Gotta Have it For Fall:

  • Stylish sweater dress. The "it" dress for fall. So many style options; from the casual comfort of Juicy Couture (perfect with tights and boots for Saturday morning at the Farmer's Market) to the elegant sophistication of Badgley Mischka. And to keep things smooth under those clingy knits, I love the Jockey No Panty Line Promise® line of camisoles, panties and thongs. I especially adore the boy short because there is absolutely no riding up!
  • Pump/boot hybrid. So very versatile. Wear them with tights and a skirt for a more edgy look. Will also look fabulous worn with trousers or jeans.
  • Military style. Either a jacket, or maybe wide leg trousers. Perhaps both, but not at the same time (no need to look like a mercenary!) Layer a frilly cami under the jacket for kicks.
  • Tailored blazer or vest. Soften the look with a great floaty blouse or dressy trousers.
  • Mary-Janes. Gorgeously girly, but very grown up in a platform. A chunky heel goes well with wide leg trousers, while a more streamlined heel works wonders with skirts and dresses.
  • Origami inspired dress. Love the feel and look of the pintucked folds. This trend is also hot in handbags and footwear.
  • Textured leather handbag. Exotics are all the rage this fall. Snakeskin and crocodile texture makes a very sophisticated statement.
  • Tie-neck blouse or dress. In this season's rich colors and gorgeous prints even Miss Moneypenny would look sexy in one of these gorgeous silk tops.
  • Pewter flats. The color is so versatile and goes with just about anything. Looks fabulous with this season's greys, reds and rich blues, and always looks fab with black.
  • Drop dead denim. And finally, the perfect way to buy jeans! True Jeans will help you find your perfect fitting jeans, without having to spend hours in the fitting room. This is absolutely ideal for the girl who is stranded on the chaise with her foot on a pillow!
  • Fabu little fashion accessory: The Bosom Button. This adorable little bauble keeps your blouse/top/dress décoletté safely and soundly in place, while at the same time making a chic fashion statement. No more wardrobe malfunctions! Perfect for wrap tops and dresses, pashminas, sarongs or even just as an accessory. And just for She She Girls, take 20% off your order through 10/01/07. Just enter code SheSheMe at checkout.

Well, dearest girls, my Fall Fashion Fiesta was a fabulous success! We gossiped, we laughed, we cheered the demise of the super-skinny, super low-rise jean, we decided to withhold judgment on the high-waisted wide-leg trouser until further notice, and we decided that the most versatile item we could possibly invest in this fall is a fabulous trenchcoat. And, bonus! Even though I may have missed out on attending Fashion Week in person, there is absolutely no need to miss out on any of the fantastic fashion action. With the help of fashion guru Michael Fink of Saks Fifth Avenue, we will stay totally in the loop with Fashion Week! Saks is broadcasting video of the shows on their website. Shop smart and shop happy!
