Top Ten Spring Finds!

Was strolling down the promenade (sounds so much more chi-chi than sidewalk, no?) checking out the darling spring fashions in the boutique windows when I noticed that Cherie's Chapeau Chateau was no longer nestled between SilverSmythe's and The Darling Little Shoppe Just Around the Corner! (Which, in turn, meant that the adorable little Easter bonnet that I'd had my eye on for weeks was also MIA.) The beret-shaped sign hanging above the door was gone and the windows were all papered over (nearly put myself in traction trying to peer between the gaps along the edge). Could hear sounds of activity--hammering, power tools, construction music (a cross between rap and country western) and there was a "Coming Soon" sign affixed to one of the windows, but no specification of what exactly would be coming soon. Perhaps a shoe salon filled with gorgeous imported Italian pumps, hand embellished espadrilles and sassy little slingbacks? And amazing leather handbags? Oh, to dream! Or perhaps a charming little boutique selling hard-to-find specialty items, vintage clothing and handmade jewelry? Oooh, scratch that (right next door is The Darling Little Shoppe Just Around The Corner, which happens to be my dear friend Pilar's shop and also just happens to carry hard-to-find specialty items, vintage clothing and handmade jewelry). I vote for the Italian shoe store. Or a crêperie. Or a book store à la Notting Hill (complete with Hugh Grant). But I digress.

It's extremely inconsiderate if you ask me, to leave us all wondering like this. Especially for those of us who actually patronized Cherie's Chapeau Chateau, going in week after week to try on the oh-so-chic fedoras and berets, crossing our fingers and praying for a 1960's fashion retrospective-the Jackie-O pillbox looks positively divine, and the netting really does help hide those tiny smile lines (never say crow's feet), not to mention the complete disappearance of my longed-for spring chapeau-but again, I digress.

Anyhoo, am a tad distraught at the thought of not knowing what will take the place of Cherie's. It could be anything! Such was the topic of conversation at lunch later in the week when Girly pointed out that tattoo parlors and body piercing establishments seem to flourish quite nicely down by the docks, while here in the sun-dappled avenues we tend more toward chi-chi boutiques, fashionable day spas, artisan jewelers, and bustling bistros. With that comforting thought we agreed to take a little stroll past the shop after lunch. I need not have fretted for a moment! For there, tucked between the jeweler and Pilar's boutique was an über-chic pet shop. Indeed, Girly and I were two of the first patrons, having arrived just moments after the ceremonial ribbon-cutting (they have a very talented macaw in there with a very sharp beak). No sooner had I walked in the door than I came face-to-face with destiny. Our eyes met across a crowded room and it was love at first sight-the most darling little Westie! I knew from the moment I picked him up and he licked my cheek that I was a goner.

Little Zac has become the love of my life, and the focus of a few late-night online shopping forays into chic puppy accessories! Found the most adorable collars and leads! Zac will be the most stylish little ball of fur ever to nestle into a puppy carrier (how lucky are we that fashion has entered the realm of canine-dom?) Speaking of late-night shopping forays, it seems I've been doing my share to keep the online retailers in business lately Zac, like any new baby, has his days and nights mixed up! He snoozes all day, then gets frisky and playful (and mischievous) in the evening. Have had a few sleepless nights trying to keep him from gnawing on the furniture and burying my sandals in the potted plants. But I have put this time to good use girls!
