Super Bowl of Style Soirée

In the past I have quite often dreaded this time of year. I know what you are thinking--any twirty girl in a non-relationship would indeed exhibit dismay during the hearts and flowers hullabaloo that is Valentines Day. But you would be wrong, because I love, absolutely adore Valentines Day--relationship or no relationship! What I am referring to is that nacho/pizza/buffalo-wing/beerfest that is known as Super Bowl Sunday. Don't get me wrong, I love a good football game as much as the next girl-raised-with-a-house-full-of-brothers, and I believe that Super Bowl Sunday should be declared a national holiday, with mandatory parties and festivities. In support of this initiative I am hosting my own party this year, aptly re-named the Super Bowl of Style Soirée.

In the fine tradition of the Fall Fashion Fête, I have invited my über-stylish friends (aka football widows) to join me for an afternoon of eye-catching ensembles, fabulous footwear and awesome accessories (while our guys gorge themselves on football and nachos), to be followed by an evening of haute hors d'oeuvres and delectable desserts, with the added bonus of a full scale Valentines gift bonanza. (After all, what boyfriend/husband/significant other couldn't use a little help in the gift selection area? When a girl has her heart set on something a little sparkly, a potted plant just isn't going to do the trick!) Also, what other holiday makes it possible for you to buy luscious lingerie for yourself, and it counts as a gift for your guy?!? (With any luck, he'll also buy you delectable dainties and it's a total win/win!)

In preparation for my little get-together I have spruced up my darling little condo a bit. Am currently using all disposable income for basic necessities and the furniture fairy seems to have passed me by once again, so I have contented myself with strategically placed bowls of fragrant blooms (fresh of course!), a lovely new area rug, some bright, plump cushions and these captivating dishes (for those gourmet goodies that are totally necessary to an evening of girly gaiety.)

The focus of our Style Soirée is two-fold: first and foremost, a great excuse for a party! Second, since Valentines Day is just around the corner (and we all have very different plans for the evening), it's a chance to preview our ensembles before the big date--perhaps make a few last minute accessory and/or footwear changes--and get the sartorial nod from our dearest girlfriends.

Pilar, for instance, is in a going-on-three-year relationship with her investment banker beau, Beau (yep, that's his real name too, short for Beaumont, hails from Kentucky). Prepping for a romantic Valentines dinner in a posh restaurant, then dancing, perhaps an enchanting moonlit stroll, then possibly a little blue box, no? Sounds like the perfect scenario for the L.B.D. Paired with sexy skyscrapers, a delicate flash of frosting and a discreet clutch for girly necessities.

Darling Bailey, freshly infatuated with her boyfriend of three months. New relationship, new advice, new Valentines wardrobe! Dinner and a movie, keeping it casual, no blue boxes on the horizon--yet! She's thinking drop-dead denim with to-die-for boots and an ultra-feminine blouse. Finish it off with the perfect Valentines earrings and matching necklace and a sassy mini bag.

Then there's Whitney. What to do for a romantic Valentines Day when you are the mother of three darling tots and eight months pregnant to boot? Whitney is opting for an evening at home with her ever-attentive hubby, who has promised her a romantic dinner (prepared by him), soft music, a soothing foot massage and the kiddies staying overnight at Grandma's. For the pregnant fashionista, this comfy wrap top and goucho pants is just the ticket. Slip into these sumptuous leather flats and finish the look with a gorgeous sterling and crystal necklace and fetching earrings.

And finally, little ole' She She Me. My crush du jour, Seth, is taking me on a romantic moonlit sail around the Bay. Which, at this time of the season, requires me to bundle up like an Eskimo. (It's a bit more difficult to be fashionable when one resembles the Michelin Man.) However, anticipating aprés sail, I'll tote along something a bit more chic.
