New Year Glam

Oh, girls! How have your holidays treated you thus far? I hope your answer is “FAB!” because oh.my.gosh.

Mine have been thoroughly excellent.

Fun and family galore, and a few incredible gifts. Christmas (aka: Hubby) treated me well this year. I am dying over the gorgeous Frye’s and necklace he gave me! They look incredible with the James Jeans mom gifted me, and I’ve even agreed to loan them to She She for an upcoming casual night-on-the-town shindig. ‘Tis the season for sharing, no?

And in my stocking? Come to mama, all ye gift cards! Question: are you a gift card lover or hater? I hear tell of people who hate gift cards. What the what? I cannot comprehend this blasphemy, but if you are one of those people, I will humbly remove any hated gift cards in your possession. I promise to give them a good home with something warm to eat. Or rather spend them on something for my home or something [delicious] to eat.

I can hardly grasp the concept of welcoming in 2012, but my calendar tells me it’s only days away, and my dress is “on truck for delivery” (yay!), so let’s get down to business and talk New Year glam.

New Year parties are the best. Yummy treats, great conversation, the perfect excuse to dress up. You can have fun with your makeup and wear something you might shy away from at other holiday bashes because, hey, it’s the new you! At least for one night.

Single, married or somewhere in between, you are practically guaranteed a smooch when the clock strikes 12.  Ooh! Or 12:12 for 2012! OR, if you’re feeling militaristic, 20:12 for 2012!

Okay, I digress. Back to the original midnight smooching plan. Prep those pretty puckers with a good scub, followed by a moisturizing balm. For all night color, a lip stain is a simple and upkeep-free solution. Top it off with a shimmering gloss and get thee to a sprig of mistletoe! Bam. Check that off your New Year list.

Play up your eyes! Go big and go bold. If you’ve been afraid to bust into the false lash revolution, New Year’s Eve is the perfect opportunity to have a go at it. There are plenty of options: individuals, sectionals, full sets and even patterned paper lashes if you really want to stand out.

Sparkle and glitter make a big stand at New Year parties. No need to be reserved when there’s confetti flying in the air! Speaking of confetti, love this rocking nail polish. (It may never come off, but at least it’ll remind me of the fun I had ringing in the new year!)

I’m starting on my New Year’s resolutions now. Top of my list (aka: simplest/easiest to check off): clean out my makeup drawer. Have to make room for the new powder Shop Girl sent me! (Too Faced is my new go-to all over powder—I most def. recommend.)

Happy New Year, favorite ladies! May all your wishes come true in 2012!

xoxo,
Girly

Nail a Flattering New Shade for 2012 with ORLY

When it comes to choosing new makeup shades, most women rely on their skin tone to select colors that will look best. A manicure is an easy way to test-drive an eye catching new shade, and the same rules apply. ORLY Education Manager Catherine Baek has easy tips to determine the difference between warm and cool skin tones and offers ORLYlacquers to complement every shade.

Keep it COOL

Cool skin tones are characterized by blue undertones with rose, beige-rose or dark grey-blue tones. If the underside of the wrist has pink shades and the veins appear blue, this indicates a cool skin tone. Those with cool tones also look best in silver jewelry. Celebrities such as Nicole Kidman, Megan Fox and Keira Knightley are all members of the cool club. Pinks, violets, raspberries and blue-reds pop against these complexions . ORLY Basket CaseHaute RedPurple CrushFancy Fuchsia and Rock-It are cool shades that are sure to flatter.

WARM it Up

Warm skin tones usually have yellow or bronze undertones. The best way to determine a warm skin tone is if the underside of the wrist has yellow or bronze undertones and the veins appear green. Those with warm complexions look better sporting gold jewelry than silver. Celebrities in the hot zone include Jessica Alba, Charlize Theron and Beyoncé. Peach, apricot, salmon, coral, peach-pink, orange, earthy hues, browns, bronze and brick-reds give warm skin an alluring glow. ORLY options include Peachy Parrot, TerracottaGilded CoralHot Chocolate and Luxe.

A New iPhone App That Could Save Your Life!

There seems to be an app for everything—no matter how trivial—and while they may prove entertaining and helpful, physician Dr. Bruce W. Moskowitz, M.D., P.L., has developed a truly beneficial and potentially life-saving iPhone application: Emergency Medical Center Locator (EMCL).

Not only does the EMCL app direct you to the closest medical center in an emergency, but the closest medical center best qualified to take care of your specific emergency—ANYWHERE in the world. The app offers recommendations in six specialty areas that tend to require immediate care—Trauma, Stroke, Eye, Pediatric, Cardiac and Burn—directing users to the medical center with the most advanced facilities and best patient outcomes in the given specialty.
