From Mascara to Max Azria:
Taking Advantage of Fall Trends
Every month I try to find something fabulously chic and somewhat inspired to share with my darling readers. Sometimes I focus on makeup, skin and hair care while other articles lean more toward helping you obtain the look of Sienna Miller and other fashionistas at more wallet-friendly prices. I've also been known to spend a fair bit of time helping you accessorize and primp for each season. And for the most part, I do my best to keep to one area (though tangents do happen).
This time I'm mixing it up, girls. I've got tips from makeup to undies to fashion to footwear! I'm going with the hottest trends for fall, and helping you find all the little bits and pieces you need to achieve your own personal style! Let's get started, shall we? No time like the present! (Speaking of presents, should ask Hubby to consider new tradition of buying me a Thanksgiving present.) Moving on.
No, no; I am not telling you to induce a fist fight nor would I ever encourage such a thing! What I'm referring to here is the hot trend this fall in eyes: the blackest black mascara around. I used to be of the "black-is-black" school (how can one black out-black another?), but I've come to understand that black can indeed be, well, blacker. There is an actual difference in the intensity of a soft black mascara and the blackest black mascara. A soft black, brown/black, or charcoal mascara is a great choice for daywear, but for a truly fabulous smoky evening eye kick up the intensity with a deep black! For added dimension, a fabulous deep eyeliner is just the ticket.
Also, black mascara works great with luscious red lips, another fabulous fall preference.
Underpinnings & Silky Skin
We all want gorgeous silky skin, but it doesn't happen all on its own now does it? Moisture is the key to firm, youthful skin (as if I don't tell you often enough!), so slather on your fave body cream morning and night to keep your skin silky smooth and supple. For those of you with stretch marks, check out LM Naturals products-truly a miracle! And speaking of silky, the luxe fabric of the season is silk. Silk and other thin, light-reflecting fabrics feel wonderful against the skin, but they also tend to pull our every flaw into the spotlight. What's a girl to do?
First of all, exercise-best for your health and figure. However, since exercise doesn't have immediate results (believe me, I've recently begun a fitness routine and am wondering when the magic will happen), slip into something that will keep you looking fab in any fabric-Spanx! This cottage-cheese-erasing, firm-body-making masterpiece of an underpinning is totally affordable and worth every penny as your booty will look booty-licious in your new silky autumn skirt. "Vow to be dimple free!" That ought to be their motto.
Silky Skirts (and Dresses)
The silky skirt and/or dress is very haute for fall; silky, satiny feminine materials are all the rage. This gorgeous BCBG Max Azria strapless bubble dress is not only silk, it also features a fabulous floral array in white and the new fall favorite: cobalt blue.
The length of choice is the skirt or dress that hits you just at/below the knee. This is an appropriate length for any occasion, whether casual or business/formal. It is also the most flattering cut for all figures as it gives a streamlined look and sophisticated flair.
Wide Leg Trousers
For another sophisticated look, opt for wide leg trousers. Trousers can be softened by a feminine blouse or become all business with a great fitted button down. Pair wide leg trousers with a body skimming top to avoid a boxy look. And vice versa: wear a loose, floaty top or tunic with skinny jeans or trousers.
Wide leg trousers do wonders for legs and with a higher waist, can even work on the vertically challenged (including moi), but only when worn with heels. In fact, the high waist style is totally hot this season-and not just for trousers. Keep your eyes peeled for high waist (but not short ) skirts and pants which help create an hourglass figure by accentuating your best features. On Ten Years Younger, Mark Montano always enjoys pointing out ways to accentuate a "tiny" waist and this style is certainly one of the best ways to do so. Also, going back to the silky dress-this Phoebe Couture dress is a fabulous example of high waist fashion! I'm in love. Would look so great with this gorgeous Botkier handbag.
(Oh, and FYI-there are even high-waist Spanx. Can someone say "perfect"?)
For those occasions when you need something with a little extra sass, and your budget isn't cooperating, check out Accessory Bug's designer-inspired products. And to make it even more fund friendly, they are having a fabulous Halloween promotion, so be sure to add the code "spooky" for 10% off anything in the store! Yay for sales! I can just sense what great things this Thanksgiving has in store.
Shoes, Shoes and More Shoes
Ah, yes. We've saved the best for last, thank you Vanessa Williams. (Please note that all must-haves are in no particular order of must-haviness; if they were we all know shoes would rank high above mascara!)
Back to shoes. Now whether you're into boots, flats or pumps, you'll be happy to know that all three are in this fall season. Feel like a peep-toe? Well peep away! This fall it's not about a specific style so much as it is about texture and color. For instance, these GUESS flats have everything going for them: quilted texture, silver patent leather (or black or gold if you should prefer) and an adorable bow and charm detail. Hmmm, bet they'll look fab with my new Juicy tote!
Another fall fave is of course the boot. Which boot? So many choices, and they are all equally chic! The ever gorgeous ankle boot (a favorite of She She Me), the knee-high dress boot, the ruggedly stylish and versatile equestrian, and so many more! Sport your boots with cropped jeans, skirts, dresses or your favorite trousers.
So, there you are girls-a bit of this, a bit of that, but each particular item will definitely contribute to your overall style. Enjoy the weather and take some time to watch the leaves fall during this gorgeous season, girls. Oh and happy shopping, natch!
