Fabulous Fall Fashion Preview

In less than a week my little darlings will be loading their backpacks with new pencil boxes, crayons and notepads and boarding the big yellow bus to embark on a new school year, and as much fun as this summer has been, I must admit that I am looking forward to getting back into a regular routine. I will reminisce fondly upon those leisurely mornings and afternoon picnics with my little darlings, but I will most definitely NOT miss hearing, "Mommy! He's looking at me again!" for the umpteenth time as we battle afternoon traffic in a cluttery car filled with sandy beach toys and wet towels.

One of the first things I like to do once the little ones are back into the school routine is to put my house in order. Literally. I like to go through all the closets and cabinets, drawers and cupboards, toy boxes, art bins, shoe boxes and every other hiding place to clear the detritus of several months of recreational neglect. Out goes all the deflated pool toys, puzzles with missing pieces, mismatched flip flops and ratty sneakers to make room for homework and craft stations, room and toy organizers, and shiny new school shoes. I have always felt that an uncluttered environment creates an atmosphere that encourages creativity and resourcefulness, which leads to happy children who are organized, well adjusted, extremely intelligent and highly motivated. Well, it's a theory actually, since my little ones are still in preschool and early elementary — but it can only help, right? I mean seriously, what good can come from keeping the sticks from every popsicle consumed by the neighborhood children over the summer? Especially when the greater percentage of them are still all gooey and stuck to the sides of a shoe box?

So take it one closet at a time, one room at a time and get rid of the junk, clean up the clutter and organize your household. You'll be pleasantly surprised at how much easier it will make your life when you no longer have to search through an overflowing junk drawer to find a pen that works so you can sign off on your first-grader's reading log. Not to mention the hours you will save by not having to search for your car keys because they are exactly where they are supposed to be: hanging on the vintage key hooks that you actually had time to install!

Which brings us to the point of everything. Now that our homes and lives are a bit more streamlined and somewhat less stress-filled, what do we do with those extra few hours of free time/me time, and more importantly, what do we wear?

Breakfast/Brunch/Lunch with Girlfriends. This is the event that gets me through those last few weeks of summer break. I know that very soon I will be able to participate in grown-up conversation while also being allowed to consume an entire meal without having to wipe a single nose or bottom. I just love this belted chino skirt for it's casual comfort. Wear it with a form fitting tee and top with this fun urban biker jacket (check out the selection of great colors!). While the weather is still warm get some extended wear out of your chic summer sandals and when things start to cool down add some toasty tights and a pair of versatile girly wedge boots. Don't forget to accessorize! A bold necklace and unique bracelet are just the ticket, and complete the look with a useful edgy bag.

Morning Errand Run. Just because I've got to run a million errands while I have the chance to do so without buckling and unbuckling kiddies in car seats doesn't mean I have to do so attired in my yoga pants and a hoodie from my sorority days. A great pair of tailored cropped trousers paired with an eco-conscious and humanitarian minded skinny tee and belted sweater or figure flattering jacket it just the ticket. Slip your freshly pedicured tootsies into a pair of comfortable chic slides. Grab your leather hobo bag and finish with a chunky bracelet and a pair of fun earrings.

A Spot of Shopping. Honestly, this is my best use of time when the little one's are otherwise engaged. I can accomplish so much more when I am on my own with even just a rough idea of what I want to accomplish. I always like to dress for comfort while remaining stylish. For me, this is a great pair of boyfriend jeans paired with a girly top and an easy-off easy-on lightweight cardi. Versatile flats and a roomy handbag complete the shopping-for-America ensemble.
