Pamper Yourself in Style
Summer is here in full swing; seemingly endless daylight, flowers and greenery, flirty tops and hotter than hot handbags, lemonade stands popping up like Starbucks in the late 90's, and let us not forget the scorching heat, sunburnt shoulders and miscellaneous individuals shopping in undersized bathing suits and way-too-short-shorts. Yep, that's summer! The highs—and the lows (as in way-too-low jeans on certain persons). However, this time of year in Hollywood is a different story altogether as the stars seem to blow us away in their fabulous everyday wear. I've made it my goal henceforth to peel away the silver lining (or greenback barrier, a.k.a. bottomless bank account) that separates most of us from the prospect of said gorgeous styles. Yes, it's true: we will all be clothed as stylishly as SJP and Kelly Ripa. Speaking of which, I have found an affordable version of the gorgeous babydoll dress Kelly wore on yesterday's show—I'm loving the black/white/relaxed theme this season! However, til now I've not spent adequate time researching wallet-friendly celebrity fashion, but promise to make amends in time for next month's column—the debut of The Sassy Fashionista! Yes, dear girls, I will make it my life's work (or at least my weekend's work) to search out the latest, hottest styles in fashion, shoes, accessories, handbags and beauty products to share with my dearest gal pals, and ways to save a few greenbacks in the process! So stay tuned because it will definitely be worth the wait! But I digress. Back to summer pampering…
Aside from seasonal fashion trends, and sassy espadrilles (which a girl can never have too many of!) one of my favorite things about summer is the abundance of outdoor fresh fruit stands and markets. If I could, I would have a citrus grove. Problem is I don't have space for two trees, let alone an entire grove. Oh, and when I tried to grow an orange tree as a child, the tree never grew past two feet tall and we had to rip it out because the oranges (which grew spectacularly, by the way) were breaking the tiny branches. Apparently I was meant only to purchase fruit! No prob!
So anyhoo, speaking of fruit, I am thrilled with the fruity scents, lotions and color inspirations available this season. (Just look at this gorgeous top! The melon color is fabulous.) Every shop I step into is full of refreshing and replenishing products! Here is a compilation of recent favorites:
Lotions to Die For:
- MyBody Essential Lotion in Fresh Start Citrus. The citrus, almost PEZ-like scent wakes you up and leaves your skin super silky. This new line of organic primping products is chock full of essential oils and entirely void of scary chemicals.
- Picadilly and Tallulah's Tropical Butter Cream in Bamboo & Green Tea. I honestly feel like I have come straight out of a rainforest after applying this cream!
- Pholosophy's Body Souffle in Daiquiri. Just delicious and packed with antioxidants.
Summer Makeup:
- Well, Sephora's Summer Blockbuster Palette basically does it all. Of cour
se I have other tricks up my sleeve.
- Summer means sparkly, particularly this summer as metallic is way in. Chanel has done it right with their new shades of über sparkly Lèvres Scintillantes Glossimer. Perfect for summer days as it glimmers with every ray of sunlight. I wore a deep red to my senior prom years ago and have been a fan ever since!
- Shiseido's The Makeup Summer Limited Edition Multi-Shade Enhancer. Extremely long name, but in short: it's a bronzer. Great for any skin color as you can blend the five colors to create the glow you want.
- This funky eyeshadow kit by Urban Decay is full of gorgeous shadows perfect for long, sunny days. Nine shimmery colors to wear alone or mix things up.
- And to help keep yourself and your makeup organized while traveling this summer, snap up one of Jimeale's fabulous cosmetic bags. Exclusively for She She girls, a 20% discount on any purchase!! Just use coupon code "Shesheme" at checkout!
Home Scents:
- The Body Shop has a fabulous line of home fragrance oils, as well as chic burners. The scent you can smell throughout the mall is a mix of Satsuma (zesty orange) and Exotic (very energetic, sugary aroma). I have become obsessed with the mix, enough so that hubby has essentially banned me from purchasing any more for at least six months, which is basically no problem since I already have enough to last till next spring!
- Crabtree & Evelyn's Sarawak home fragrance oil. Very island-paradise, über relaxed scent. I don't know whether I want to take a nap or hike the pali, but I'm digging this scent either way!
- A sucker for candles (always a key decorating factor at my house), I am always on the lookout for great additions to my collection.
Miscellaneous Cool Finds:
- MyBody Massage Candles. So cool. Massage oil in candle form with specially formulated wax that will never burn your skin. Hello! So innovative and comes in a chic hourglass container which you can use as a votive once the wax is all used up. I have it in Just Juicy to fit my fruity/citrus craze.
- Funky stakes to encourage my new strawberry plants to flourish (maybe I have a green thumb for tiny fruiting plants?).
- I've never considered skull and crossbones to be “cute” but leave it to Betsey Johnson to change my mind with her sassy skull-clad belt! If you get sick of the skulls, reverse it to don gorgeous suede. This is a pure accessory, girls—2 ½ inches wide and totally rock star. Slip on a pair of her funky wedges and I'm really ready to rock ‘n roll!
Enjoy summer while it lasts, ladies. Get out and embrace the season from nose to tootsies. I've got some work to do if I plan to preach the dress-for-less message next time. Until then!
xoxo

She She Me Sponsor: My Body Organic

MyBody Organic started with one idea—organic lotion. Organic lotion without synthetic chemicals that enter our body by going through our skin. Organic lotion that softens and nourishes the skin without feeling greasy or sticky. Organic lotion that works for babies and adults.

All of our unscented products are suitable for all ages and skin types. Many essential oils are safe for babies and young children but on a daily basis I would recommend our unscented formulas or our MyBaby product line. Love your body—use our organic lotion!
