Fall Wants, Needs & Must Haves

Flipping through magazines at the salon I noticed that there was a large collection of fabulous finds (e.g. ankle boots and chic cozy sweaters ) that I do not, in fact, possess. Scratch that— did not in fact possess (sometimes a girl accidentally packs all of her belongings without thinking about the fact that certain items should not be boxed and shipped cross-country, but rather kept in a duffle for easy access and/or emergencies. And sometimes that girl must fix that problem the best way she knows how).

Anyhoo, after signing my home away to the sweetest little old couple I have ever met and trotting the cashier's check off to the bank, I suddenly found myself shopping for replacement basic seasonal necessities, since every warm sweater and pair of perfect denim that I own (not to mention my new Betsey Johnson platform boots—what was I thinking?! ) is currently somewhere west of the Rockies in the back of a moving van! Well, what else was I to do? The obvious answer here is “continue to shop.” Kudos to those of you with that answer in mind! You girls are my peeps (She She Me tells me “peeps” is an important word to use in California. She thinks she can brainwash me, which of course she can't, but I'm going to use the word around her as often as possible because she's my peep. Can you just say peep or is it one of those words that doubles in its singularity and plurality—like moose?)

Back to shopping. First I popped into my favorite little beauty boutique downtown to check off the first item on my list: red lips. I've become quite a regular around the shop and wanted to say my goodbyes, as well as get a few tips on the how-to of the very chic red lip craze. Which shade of red is right for me? How can I pull it off without looking like a tart? As it turns out, my somewhat-less-than-voluptuous lips and ivory complexion (a year-round Girly feature) call for a pink-toned red. A brighter, lighter color is best for the light skinned or non-Angelina-Jolie-lipped, while deeper, darker colors tend to better compliment the warmer, deeper-toned or full-lipped. Makes sense.eLUXURY

Side note: always try on a color before purchasing it. Take a stroll. If people quickly hide their children's eyes when you come near, or if strange men start reaching for their wallets and you notice that a lot of police officers seem to be eyeing you questionably, you should shy away from that particular shade.

After purchasing “my” red (which also happens to be a luscious lip plumper!) I jaunted into the shop next door where some snotty little twit with a snaggletooth and frosted beige lipstick (yikes!) eyed my fabulous red lips with obvious envy, and an overabundance of snotitude, to which I replied by blowing her a red-lipped kiss and jaunting right back out. (I am loving how easy it is to jaunt in my new slingbacks—I highly recommend the 3 1/2 " heel height for jaunting!) Though I may return during snaggletooth's lunch break (ergo, no commission for Miss Snotty Pants) to take another look at the gorgeous leather tote in the display window.

I'll admit that most of my shopping was done via windows. Speaking of which, Hubby will be grateful for the thick pane that successfully separated yours truly from Nanette Lepore. Oh how I love a belted coat! However, I was on the hunt now for blush. This fall is all about natural, remember? One way to know what “natural” means to you is to pinch your cheeks. Once they are nice and rosy, find the blush that matches. Then go with a shade lighter so as not to look quite so manhandled. For me, that means a soft peach-toned pink.

One thing I did remember to keep with me is my trusty No More Bad Hair Days Kit. With all the traveling I have done recently, I have found the solution to bad hair days due to differing water conditions across the nation. And this is my fix it kit. Also a big fan of nutrient rich X Squared for correcting damage.

Another must-have this fall, with the new airline rules and all: airline-approved products! If your products are 3 oz or less and can fit in specifically sized plastic baggies, they are allowed as carry-ons! This news just in time for my upcoming travels. Hair care, perfume, facewash, lip gloss—you name it!

I picked up the rest of the items on my list, including a “who's the new girl” dress and a “back off—he's mine” mani/pedi for my new-kid-on-the-block debut. I also added a few items to my covet list—particularly the new Fendi bucket bag. Think of everything a girl can carry—a whole bucket-worth!

Well, it's going to be a long weekend of me looking fabulous while meeting the new neighbors and directing the placement of furnishings by the movers. Even little Stella will be in style in her new velvet collar! (Hey, it's not as obsessed as She She Me and her tiny outfits for Zac.) Oh, I am a fan of work-related moves and the perks (aka: no manual labor by yours truly) that come with the deal. Happy shopping!

xoxo,

Girly
