Autumn Makeup Guide

California, here I come! Yes, Hubby got a job transfer. With the cooler winds chilling the hairs BACK to my freshly waxed gams, I couldn't be more pleased with the upcoming move. (Since my only job requirements are a laptop, a cell phone and quick access to an airport, I am good to go!) I'm already envisioning myself "doing lunch" with the stylishly clad tanned and toned at a bistro overlooking the beach. And I just know Stella will love it there. Plenty of grass and greenery to munch on (she's all but destroyed my indoor plants), new bugs to chase, territory to declare, etc.

Enough about the kitty—I know I will love it there! Back to the old stomping grounds for me. Now I can really show She She Me what it means to be a Cali Girl (she still favors pearls and argyle when she ought to be clad in platinum and stylish shades. Girly to the rescue!). With mere weeks to prepare, pack and move out west I must get serious about my seasonal changeover. One must step into the new neighborhood in full swing fashion! And so, my following fall-in-a-flash plot has unraveled:

Fall Makeup: Eyes, Lips, Cheeks, Face

What does this fall's makeup have in store for us girls? Well, it won't take long to doll up for these brisk fall days! Makeup trends are simple: rich colors, matte visage and naturally tailored brows (as if this is ever “out”). Now, let's get more specific, shall we?

Your eyes and your lips will be taking the stage this season. For your eyes, keep it soft; natural and fresh is the look for fall. First, go light on the mascara (consider having your lashes dyed). For shadow, think earthy tones, with a cream or white dab at the tear duct to brighten your eyes. But if you are feeling dramatic, try a striking sapphire (how amazing would that color look with this dress?) or teal—or any color that either compliments or contrasts the natural color of your eyes—to really knock ‘em dead.

Red is all the rage in the lip domain. The stars are doing it and we are doing it; it's a classic look and we, of course, are classy girls. So many gorgeous shades to choose from.

Next, emphasize those cheekbones! A gorgeous bone structure can be “created” with a few quick makeup tricks. Apply a highlighter along the cheekbone, then create a contour with a deeper shade just beneath - a blush/bronzer duo is perfect.

Aside from a little glow on the cheekbones, go light on any shine and shimmer; matte is the way of the season. A shine-free face gives a sophisticated, refined look—just what the stylist ordered, and this luscious mineral foundation smooths and evens skin tone as well as provides SPF15.

Also, be sure to keep an eye on those brows; nobody wants to see what you would look like as Sasquatch (or Cleopatra or the Mona Lisa or Frida Kahlo). Fall Dress-up: The Whole Deal

That's right. Buckle down (or up) and hit the shops, ladies. It's time to welcome in the season—in all aspects of our lives. The minute the temperature dips below 60° (even if it only happens during the middle of the night) autumn has begun without question and you can officially break out the cashmere and corduroy (btw: am in love with my new fall dress!)

Start with your wardrobe. Follow Shop Girl's advice as a rule of thumb. Embrace all things plaid, tweed, skinny and wide-sleeved. And yes, leggings. Not only are they this season's chic style statement, but they are useful as well—they'll keep your legs warm and cozy no matter what you pair them with in chilly weather. Also, (have I mentioned this before?) get thee acquainted with all things red! And pick up some wide belts—they are the über-accessory of the season.

To truly embrace fall, one must usher the season into her home. There is no better way to begin than through scents! I must admit the ability to “smell” is my favorite of the five senses (after all, scent does trigger memories faster than JLo can remarry!). I love candles for their ability to smell amazing and update décor effortlessly. However, I sometimes hesitate to light said candles knowing they will melt and, in effect, disappear from my décor. Therefore, I am also quite fond of scented oils. And this nifty little accessory—makes it possible for me to fill my entire house with lovely scent just by turning on a lamp!

Dress up your home with subtle, semi-seasonal accents. It truly does make a difference! A rich, cozy new throw and some comfy new pillows can give a couch or bed a fresh feel. Replace your light summer duvet with a warm and richly hued comforter. This great umbrella stand will keep your floors clean and dry during the upcoming wet winter months—with the added bonus of always knowing where to find an umbrella! (as well as your new peacoat!)

Must get to primping (and packing!). It's going to be a gorgeous fall!
