Summer Pampering
For some crazy reason, I completely forgot about Father's Day last weekend. (So did She She Me, but she won't admit it, and thanks to Sharper Image, online shopping and overnight delivery her Dad never knew either!) I've come to think this memory lapse was due to the media's repeated use of the word sale, which somehow caused the idea of shopping to surpass the fact that aforementioned sales were not, in fact, geared in any way toward the two of us. Needless to say, on Saturday we headed out for a day of shopping. We started by following our natural “sale” intuitions, but very quickly picked up on the fact that any sale we hit would turn out to be barbeques, power tools and neckties. Completely discouraged (apparently people do not shop for propane in Armani and Bettye Muller)—not to mention distraught (we did have our sights set on new handbags)—we swiftly changed route and hit our favorite spa.
After several hours of spa therapy to replace the morning's shattered hopes for retail therapy, I began to drift. With my first anniversary swiftly approaching, I am fondly reminiscing my exotic Hawaiian honeymoon. How I wish I could just hop on a private jet—flown by my private pilot, of course—and skip on over to some private beach house with hubby. Unfortunately, unless I win the lottery or am the next American Idol, the herald "private" is many, many, many years down the road.
When we left the spa, freshly mani/pedi'd, I knew what I had to do. Obviously, I now had the charge to find creative (and universally available) ways to soothe my body's need for the silver-spoon treatment it received in the sumptuous tropics last summer. I am now more determined than ever to pamper myself this summer as well. Why allow my body to suffer simply because it can't take a jaunt to the islands?
With She She's help, I have developed a summer pampering product guide. Since I cannot be in the tropics, I will bring the tropics to me (and you, of course!)
Always a believer of the healing and nourishing abilities of plants, I went on a search for pampering products which offer such therapy. Plantogen makes fabulous plant derived products, with cleansers, masks, moisturizers and more. I especially love the seaweed mask. Also, I'm completely obsessed with the fragrance of their products. So tropical, you'll almost feel like you're on vacation.
Face masks seem to make all the difference on a stressful day. Moisturizing masks feel great in the summer heat, helping to rejuvenate and smooth your hot, tired skin. With the lack of tropical moisture in the air, I will supplement this summer. Luckily, there is a wide variety of moisturizers both for face and body. Ramy's Vitamin C Serum is like a fresh, tropical spa treatment. Also, facial mists are a refreshing daytime alternative.
I've noticed that my lips have become bored with their current lip gloss selection. Okay, well I have become bored with my current lip gloss selection. Problem solved, however: remember those Tarte glosses I found and love? Well, just in time for the arrival of the newest Superman flick, I've picked up Tarte's “ lois & clark” double-ended lipgloss—a gorgeous sheer brick red and sheer copper duo. I'll have the most “Lois-y” lips in the theater (since I won't be on my private beach).
Instead of sunning in Waikiki , I suppose I will probably be gardening , which still requires protection from those nasty UVA and UVB rays. Jurlique has a fabulous herbal sun lotion, and their Calendula Cream is wonderful if you find yourself a little pink on the nose, shoulders, or anywhere else at that. I also like this as an all over sunscreen.
With no sand around to naturally exfoliate my tootsies, I've opted for professional and at-home pedicure and foot care products. Luckily, OPI has the perfect foot wellness intro kit—that should do the trick for any problems my feet may encounter this season (though, if you're looking for the professional kit they've made one of those as well).
I've made sure to keep my hands well moisturized and well manicured this summer. After all, it's been said that a woman's hands will tell her age when her words will not. Luckily, that saying is dead in the water if a woman cares for and pampers her hands devotedly. Keeping your hands moisturized is one of the simplest ways to slow signs of aging. Using a moisturizer with SPF will help your hands to avoid any sunspots or other aging done through sun damage. It's always a plus that hand moisturizers fit snugly into your favorite designer hobo.
Already feeling moisturized, refreshed and spoiled by my little pampering product collection I am sure to survive my lack of tropical vacation this year (though I can't say I'm happy about said lack). At least I have my new Bermudas to perk me up!
Stay lovely, girls. If you find yourselves in the tropics this season, know that I am entirely jealous and attempting to live vicariously through you!
