I have always been a firm believer in the old adage, "What goes around, comes around," and honestly try to live my life accordingly. I mean, why get your knickers in a twist because someone decides that they are soooo much more important than you and are therefore entitled to jump into your cab while you grapple with luggage, gorgeous spanking new handbag, and cell phone while negotiating madcap rush hour sidewalk traffic in Christian Louboutin and Nicole Miller on a sweltering August afternoon?! Does it make me a bad person because I felt the teeniest little thrill as I watched said cab speed away, bearing said VIP smugly ensconced in rear seat—with the shoulder strap of her to-die-for vintage Chanel handbag hanging out the door, dragging along the gritty streets? Sheer divine retribution (though I must admit to feeling an honest-to-goodness pang of regret for what once was a most glorious handbag).

Which brings us to my most recent brush with serendipity. Was walking briskly down the street, juggling carrier bags containing my lunch-hour shopping-fest booty (positively divine cashmere sweater — perfect for summer evenings; fabu indigo denim jeans for this weekend's little jaunt up the coast; sassy new leather platforms to wear with darling denim and the pièce de résistance — a lovely little frock for a romantic dinner out), when who should I practically knock over with my Saks bag(s)? None other than my old college nemesis and archrival-for-the-love-of-a-boy (she won, then dumped him and broke his little two-timing heart) Mindy Merriweather! I had a moment to survey her in all her too-tight-jeans-bleach-blonde-big-haired-big-(saggy)-boobed glory (and believe me, darlings, the years have not been kind!) before she realized it was me. Her Tammy Faye eyes widened as they took in my über-chic style: chic knee length skirt, exotic luscious silk tunic cinched with little leather belt, covetable Choo's and a deliriously gorgeous Reed Krakoff boxer tote (a re-gift from my chic mentor/boss, but who needs to know that?). A slow sneer began to spread across her face, but before she could open her mouth to utter a word, I slowly slid my eyes from the top of her dried-out over-bleached over-blown hair to the tips of her desperately-in-need-of-a-pedicure toes and back up again, sighed, and with a little "who would ever believe it" shake of my head simply stepped around her and continued on my merry way. As I heard her snort and say, "Well! That's a fine how-do-you-do!" I realized that there is another old adage that is particularly true: Living well is the best revenge!

And speaking of living well, this week we're going to get a jump on fall with the top trends that will be the basis for your fall and winter wardrobe:

Black and White: This crisp classic color pairing was all over the runways for Fall 2011. Menswear with a feminine twist, elegant tuxedo styling, this fall the look is classic and chic. I love the look of a great pair of pewter or silver platforms, but for fun I'll add a pop of color with a great bootie style shoe.

Midcalf Skirts. Hemlines are long this season, but with so many styles and options. In cool metallic's, graphic mixed prints, sleek form fitting styles and full-skirted options, these fabulous full-coverage skirts are ladylike and chic without being stuffy and fuddy-duddy. The great thing about these skirts is they can be paired with ballet flats à la Audrey Hepburn, but look excellent with wedges and towering heels alike!

Lacy Dress: Ladylike and very of-the-moment. (And if Kate Middleton is wearing it, then so am I!!) Lace is synonymous with sensuality and delicacy, but above all femininity! I adore the look of a little sheer lace on the neckline of a dress — it's understated yet absolutely exquisite. And for the perfect party dress you just can't beat the look of all-over-lace. And the perfect footwear to accompany this trend? A simple, classic pump! And since every girl knows that a classic black pump is an investment in style, and quite possibly the item of footwear that you will get the most per-wear-value out of, it's actually in your best interest to invest in a truly exquisite pair. Oh, and keep the handbag simple too — no embellishments or bling, just a sleek clutch or shoulder chain bag is perfection.

Must-Have Jeggings: Seriously darling girls, jeggings: the one item that you are definitely going to want in your wardrobe for fall. They are so very versatile! Wear them with a crisp white blouse open and belted over a silky tank, then finish with a pair of killer platforms and you are good to go! Or pair them with an oversize cashmere sweater, a great leather bomber jacket and ankle boots for a more edgy look.

Poncho. There are tons of options for all cape and poncho lovers ranging from boho chic types to those seeking something a bit more glam. One of my faves — this sweet little loose-weave poncho from Delia's! Chic and affordable!

Graphic Plaids and Tartans: With this trend a little goes a long way. I am going to start out with a great tartan scarf to pair with my new poncho and jeggings. When things get a bit more nippy I am whipping out my new Lumber Jacket!

Well, dearest girls, I think we've got our work cut out for us! The best part is that if we get a head start now, while things are still fresh on the racks, fresh on the shelves and fresh in our minds, we will be that much further ahead of the pack when the weather turns nippy this fall.
